h o u s e hunting {Isaac}

Gabriella apparated into a woodland area near the place called Foxwood Trail. She and Isaac would be meeting there to look at a house. Gabriella was excited, she was ready to move into a house with Isaac, she was tired of spending time apart.

She walked anxiously to the edge of the woods and then started down the winding road, heading for the house that Isaac had described. Gabriella couldn't wait to see the inside, hopefully it would be the place for them. As she walked, she caught the scent of Isaac and spun around to locate him, grinning when she did.

Isaac came up to Gabriella, and greeted her with a kiss on the lips. He surveyed the house, it was a definite fixer-upper, but its basic structure was handsome. And goodness knew he could do with a hobby. "The agent should be here shortly, her name's Hazel Winthrop. She seemed pretty excited when I phoned, apparently we're the first people to express any interest in the property." Isaac said.

Gabriella nodded in reply. "Good, then we won't have any competition for the house," she replied with a smile. Gabriella's eyes searched the house, it was beautiful, but she could tell that there was some work that needed to be done, perhaps some paint on the siding and a new roof, but it was nothing that they couldn't handle. Mostly Gabriella wanted to see the interior of the house.

Isaac smiled a bit, he could see himself working a lot on the house between Quidditch practices. It could all be fixed quite easily by magic, but it would be more satisfying to do it by hand- plus their muggle neighbours might get a bit suspicious if the house were suddenly radiant overnight. "Even if there were others," said Isaac, "we could make an offer no sane person would refuse."

"Well, obviously," Gabriella replied with a slight smile. It was somewhat foreign to her to have all the money of the Malfoy family, but it was quite nice not to have to worry about such things. Her parents had always been so tight with their earnings. "I like the idea of fixing this up," Gabriella added. She could definitely imagine she and Isaac fixing up the house by themselves, it would be very satisfying.

"Me too, just looking at the place I'm going to need to give it a new roof. No doubt there's going to be a lot inside to work on, too." said Isaac, and then he got a sudden idea of what he was going to do for a Christmas present for his wife. A silver Mercedes Benz pulled into the driveway and out stepped a woman wearing heels and a smart jacket with matching skirt. "Ah, you must be Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy," said she, coming up to them, a briefcase in her left hand, offering her manicured right for Isaac to shake. He took it gently, and then Hazel offered her hand in turn to Gabriella.

Gabriella politely shook Hazel Winthrop's hand with a smile. She could sort of tell that Hazel thought them odd for being married so young, but Gabriella didn't mind, everyone thought that. "It's a pleasure to meet you," Gabriella said to the woman. "And you as well," Hazel replied with a tight smile. "Are you ready to see the house?" she asked, pulling a set of keys from her briefcase.

"Yes, we've been waiting for a long while," said Isaac, sliding his hand into Gabriella's. He followed the real estate agent up the cracked pavement driveway (another thing tacked onto his mental to-do list). Looking at Hazel's shoes, Isaac could not help but think she must be uncomfortable, he never understood why some women favoured that high of a heel. "It's a handsome place," Hazel said, "Twelve bedrooms, ten bathrooms, it needs some electrical work, but it's livable."

Gabriella tried not to choke when Hazel mentioned that the place had twelve bedrooms. The only comparable home she had been in was the Malfoy home, but that was even bigger. Gabriella nodded politely to Hazel and then the real estate agent opened the door. Gabriella squeezed Isaac's hand as they entered the house.

Isaac smiled at his wife, hopefully reassuring her. Yes, it was a large house, but it was probably half the size of the place he had grown up in. Still, it was going to be a transition for Gabriella, Isaac hoped it was one she could get used to. He couldn't help but wonder if they should start smaller; it wasn't an issue of money, but they didn't really need all that space. "I'll show you the kitchen I always think it's a good starting point," said Hazel, taking the lead. The wood floors creaked under their feet loudly.

Gabriella made a mental note to have the floors replaced. They were very old and creaked even under her light steps. She had to force herself not to laugh as Hazel mentioned the kitchen as a good starting point. Gabriella knew that it wouldn't matter to her or Isaac what the kitchen was like, as long as they could store some emergency blood and alcohol, they would be fine. Still, Gabriella followed the agent into the kitchen. It was a good size and layout, though the appliances were outdated. However, the floors were a beautiful stone. "I love the floors," Gabriella commented.

"Yes, it's nice to not hear the creaking," Isaac commented, looking around. He doubted that the stove even worked, but it wasn't like they were going to be doing any cooking on it. Hazel's eyes lit up with a smile at their positive comments. "They're original flooring, pretty good shape considering the house was estimated to have been built in 1867." Hazel contributed. Isaac nodded, not really paying attention as the real estate agent explained the hookups and things for the appliances.

Gabriella nodded politely as Hazel explained all the things for the appliances. Gabriella supposed it would be useful if they ever wanted to have people over, but she could always just prepare food using magic. It wasn't exactly one of her strong points, but with a book or something it couldn't be too hard. After a couple of minutes, Hazel led them out of the kitchen and over to a hallway with several doors.

Isaac paid a bit more attention as Hazel labeled the rooms, and showed them inside of each one in turn. This hall featured a couple of parlours, a billiard room, a sitting room, and a simple bathroom. Isaac's satisfaction with the house grew more and more with each room. They all had a number of things that needed to be fixed, but he was willing to take that on if Gabriella was not.

Gabriella nodded once in a while as Hazel showed them various rooms. She found that she liked the house, especially all the detail that was put into some of the old woodworking. Obviously, the house needed plenty of fixing up, but she didn't think that would be too much of an issue. In fact, it sounded fun. "Ready to go upstairs?" Hazel asked after they examined most of the rooms on the lower level. Gabriella nodded and Hazel led them to a stunning staircase.
