"I think I'm going to try and sleep again," said Emily, lying down and adjusting her position so her back was turned away from Raychel. She closed her eyes, but didn't dare allow herself to actually fall asleep again, because the nightmare would present itself the second her brain turned off. Emily mentally sparred against herself while she laid there.

"Alright." Raychel replied soothingly. As soon as Emily rolled over, Raychel knew she had no inention of sleeping. She stood and returned to her bed, picking up her book. She began reading it. She stole glances at Emily every so often, and each time found her to still be awake. Raychel felt the same way. She too was terrified of the nightmares, fearing each one more and more. She too, fought sleep countless times. Raychel set the newly finished novel down and stood up. She headed for the bookshelf, hoping to find another fascinating story.

Emily kept her eyes closed, but inside she was fighting sleep ruthlessly, not allowing it to have even a second's foothold on her. Somewhere down the road Emily dozed off completely, at first her rest was dreamless, peaceful, even. It didn't take long for the terror to return to her, only this time, Emily was able to wake herself before it got too far.
