After reading through the paper, Safira made a large "P" in scarlet red ink at the top of the paper. She felt that it was generous, as the quality was horrible. It looked as if it had been put together in ten minutes. She set it aside and scanned through another, This one looked like it had had some effort put into it, every last inch of the scroll of parchment (yes, an entire scroll) was crammed with minute writing. The potion was highly complex, but Safira did not see any conflict in the ingredients.

Again, in between each set of papers, Demetri stole a glance at Safira. He wanted to say something to, ask her to go grab dinner with him, something. Of course, all that came out of his mouth was a whole lot of nothing. Finally, he produced something articulate enough. He slid a paper across the desk to her and smiled. It was hers, and written in red was an "EE" for Exceeds Expectations. "Fantastic job Safira."

Safira took a quick glance at the paper that Professor Oriole had finished grading, and immediately recognized the handwriting as her own. Without looking up at the handsome potions professor, she smiled, and then returned to grading the extraordinarily long assignment. This one was going to take her the rest of the night. It reminded her of something Angel might have put together before she left school, painstakingly long, but extremely well thought-out and flawless.

Demetri received the intended effect when Safira smiled. He became mesmerized with it. It's radiance wouldn't leave his head for a moment, and he smiled just thinking about it. He smiled back and nodded in return before going back to grading. Within an hour, he was finished. He sat back, letting Safira finish her stack. He wasn't sure what he would put into conversation with her, but he wanted to talk to her badly.

It had taken Safira the better part of fifteen minutes to read the essay, and then finally put an O at the top. She grabbed the next one. After that monstrous essay, the others were a breeze. They went in a steady flow of usually Exceeds Expectations and Acceptables, the occasional Poor, and she only gave out a Troll once, but that was because the essay was less than half finished. After grading the last one, she laid down her quill with a triumphant sigh. "I've no idea how you can stand grading like this," said Safira, and then covered her mouth as she yawned.

Demetri leaned back in his chair. "Normally, I can't. Practice makes perfect I s'pose." He replied with a smile. He looked at Safira a while, not knowing what to say. It was obvious she was tired, but he wanted her to stay.

Safira was suddenly interrupted from conversation by a loud crashing noise. She whipped her head in direction of the disturbance, to find that Delilah had smashed open a jar of pickled rats' brains. And was eating one. She pulled an expression of disgust, and then strode over to her cat. "Delilah! Drop it!" Safira said firmly. The Persian placed it down, looking at her remorsefully. Safira paid no mind. "Bad cat!" scolded Safira, pushing Delilah off the table. She repaired the jar, and used a spell to clean up the pickled brains. She threw away the one Delilah had gnawed on, though.

Demetri laughed. Not very many cats came into his room, but Terese was the same way. He was always running to get more pickled rats' brains and bat wings, all sorts of wonderous oddities. As if remembering, Terese's black head rose from where she lay, smelling the scent of the brains. Once the smell had vanished however, she lay back down on her paws, watching her master.

"I'm sorry about that, I've no idea what's gotten into her," said Safira, looking sternly down at her cat. She would forget all about her anger later, and wake up in the morning to Delilah being curled in a ball under her arm, but that was beside the point. As if already forgetting what had happened, the white-haired cat began poking around the room again, sniffing things here and there. Safira began to gather her stuff.

Demetri didn't attempt to stop her. He wanted to, oh so badly. Nothing could have stopped him, were he not afraid. He watched her gather her stuff silently. He pleadingly thought that he would do anything to make her stay, but he wouldn't ever say it aloud. She was just so famously beautiful, he couldn't help himself. He sat back and watched her, trying to find someway to communicate his interest. No such thing came to mind.

"Good night, professor," said Safira for what felt like the millionth time that evening, but this time she was actually going to leave. She grabbed her notebook in her right hand, and then scooped up Delilah to hold under her left. Safira pushed the door open with her hip, and took one last look at Professor Oriole. He was so handsome... She blushed a little, gave him a quick smile, and then quited the room.

Demetri leaned back in his chair, turning his quill in his hands. He smiled back to her, saying nothing. He allowed her to go, but his head was elsewhere. He stood and stretched, ready for bed. Demetri was now confident in attempting to woo her, for he had seen her blush.
