As it was now April, the weather was actually somewhat tolerable. It had gotten warmer at least, and Blaize was pretty certain that they were done with snow, until November. He stood in the lake, jeans rolled up to his knees. It was Saturday, a Hogsmeade weekend, but Blaize had decided to stay behind. Dark clouds had rolled in, covering the skies that had been clear earlier in the morning. First a few drop came, but then the rain started pouring in thick sheets. Blaize was drenched, but he remained standing in the lake, skipping stones. This was his idea of fun.

Sydney had decided to skip the Hogsmeade trip. She didn't feel like going and being the only Hufflepuff girl by herself. That, and she had played an innocent prank on a Slytherin... that turned into a prank gone horribly wrong on three Slytherins. Biting her lip, she made a mental note to check on the poor boys down in the hospital wing. Maybe bring them flowers... Sydney looked out into the Black Lake and saw a boy skipping stones. Watching him, she realized that it was Blaize. Her heart skipped along with the stones skidding along on the water.
She took a deep breath and stepped forward to talk to him. Suddenly, a torrential downpour began. Sydney's long wavy brown hair was falling down in front of her face, and she was drenched from head to toe. She giggled in delight and held her arms out, throwing her head back to the sky. She completely forgot about where she was, and suddenly she was falling head over heels in a mud puddle... right at Blaize's feet.

Blaize looked down when he heart the noise of someone splashing in the mixture of dirt and lake right beside him. He recognized the girl as someone from his house, but her name... He could not recall. "Um, are you uh, okay?" asked Blaize, tripping over his words like always. He extended the hand that wasn't holding all the smooth stones that he was skipping.

Sydney gladly took the offered hand and lifted herself up. She smiled at Blaize kindly and bowed her head slightly. "Thank you so much..." she started, than looked down at herself. Seeing that all the mud was already washed off by the rain, she laughed. "Guess there's no need to clean myself off." she replied with a smiled. Shaking his hand, she introduced herself. "Sydney Greyer."

"Yeah," said Blaize after the girl had thanked him. She was rather pretty, even if she was a little younger than he was. He was sure that his ears were turning as red as his hair, but thankfully his hair was long enough to cover them for the most part. "Um, Blaize Weasley," Blaize said, returning her handshake gently. He then returned to skipping rocks, having no idea of what to say.

Sydney blushed, looking down at her feet. She picked up some stones and began skipping them along with Blaize. Grinning, she looked over at him momentarily. "Are you always this... articulate?" she asked with a laugh.

Blaize chuckled a bit, he didn't mind the occasional joke at his expense. Especially when around his twin sister, Emily. She had been extremely depressed from December until March, and for good reason. But she seemed to be turning around, Blaize still kept as close an eye as possible on her, though. "One might, uh, say that, yeah." Baize said with a small smile, ears turning as red as his hair.

Sydney smiled cutely and nodded, giggling a bit. She was positive he knew she was flirting with him, and she wanted to try a bit more. She continued to skip stones, being quiet, although occasionally laughing. She said nothing further to him, giving him time to come up with a conversation starter of his own.

Blaize didn't mind the quiet between them, he continued to skip his stones. He wasn't the best at it, but he wasn't the worst either. He could usually only get a stone to jump three or four times before it sank. Blaize figured that he would let Sydney carry the conversation if she felt like talking, he didn't really know what to say. Just think like it's one of your books, Blaize thought.

Sydney continued to skip stones, although she had begun watching him out of the corner of her eye. He was rather cute, and she had watched him play Qudditch for a long time. "So... do you enjoy playing Keeper?" she asked absentmindedly.

A small smile met Blaize's lips at the mention of Quidditch. It was the best way to get him involved in a conversation, as it was one of the few topics that he could discuss with ease. "More than anything," said Blaize. He had been told he had gotten his father's talent for keeping, as did Emily. The Hufflepuff team now had a pretty good chance after having several losing seasons in a row.

"Well, you have a knack for it." Sydney replied. Immediately she regretted complimenting him, for she felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment. She hid her eyes, directing her gaze back over to the Lake. She was always like this around boys, especially ones that she took a liking to. She was silent some more, not sure if continuing the conversation would be best for her sanity.

Sydney needn't feel embarrassed, as Blaize blushed too, only this time a bit on his cheeks. This was a rarity for him, as it usually stuck with his ears. "Thanks," Blaize replied after somewhat of an awkward pause. "Play any Quidditch?" He skipped another rock, and watched it bounce on the surface of the water three times before sinking.

Sydney shook her head. "No, I'm awfully afraid of heights. I've always wanted to fly around on a broom though." she replied. Instantly, she wondered why. Usually, she didn't ever reveal that to anyone. She didn't even think her brother knew that about her. She skipped some more stones. She bent over an began digging around in the pebbles beneath and around her feet. Finally, Sydney found a perfectly flat stone. Grinning, she expertly tossed it out onto the Lake and laughed giddily when she got five skips out of it.

"Nice one," said Blaize as he observed Sydney skipping her stone five times before it sank to depths of the lake. Better than anything that he could pull off anyways. He wanted to say something in reply to her being afraid of heights. Perhaps he might show her that flying was great. Blaize snapped out of his mental fantasy and back onto his present conversation. The rain picked up a bit more.
