Wren, in taking advantage of the last few weeks of warm weather, had decided to take her two kids as well as the dog to the park to enjoy the sunshine. Ruby had only just turned two years old, her little brother Daniel would be eight months by the end of September. Time really had flown, Wren felt that it was just yesterday she was struggling to care for a one and a half year old as well as a newborn- and while things were certainly far from easy then, she had settled into something of a routine. She peered over at Ruby, who was gleefully playing in the sandbox. Wren had only recently gotten her to stop eating the sand, though she still didn't trust her daughter completely.
And likely with good reason, Wren had a feeling she would probably catch a few grains of sand in Ruby's teeth when she brushed them that evening. Daniel squealed in happiness as his fat little fist violently shook the rattle that she had given him, making Wren laugh, her children frequently did that. She was predisposed to laughter anyway, given her lighthearted and sunshiny spirit, though Ruby and Daniel seemed only to intensify that trait in her. Her son then began babbling like there was no tomorrow, only making her chuckle some more. She had a feeling Daniel would be a talker when he got older.
"Is that so?" said Wren in response to the unintelligible noises, the ghost of her laughter still twinkling in her eyes. That morning really could not have been more perfect- unless of course it were a Saturday or Sunday, meaning that Zach could be there, but this was still peaceful for the time being.
