Nat smiled as she read the paper. Grace was proving to be nice enough. She was beginning to feel as if she couldn't be bad. But that wasn't true. Everyone had to have bad in them. Otherwise there was no good. That was what she had read in one book, from the view of a pessimistic man. Of course, she hated to think everyone had to have bad in them. In the books she read, bad didn't always triumph over the good. She wasn't a fan of the happily ever after fairy tales. Her mind wandered to the death on the grounds. The Malfoy girl. It was true. Sometimes bad won.
Nat was a bit surprised when Grace blushed. She would have thought that even shy girls knew when they were pretty. She smiled, once again feeling a bit envious. "Herbology isn't exactly practical," she sighed, reclining completely back on the grass, so she was laying down now, looking up at the sky. The whisper of spring seemed to be growing every day, an idea of hope. Even the general student population began to perk up as spring approached. "Can't do much with it, can you? Or have the wizards even found a use for growing plants?" She asked with a small smile of amusement, allowing herself to relax even more.
"Wizards do think of the strangest things. Like those...ear things?" She looked at her with a questioning look. "Who thinks of stuff like that?" She had to laugh.

Grace really was not used to getting compliments, even ones that other girls might say a simple "thank you" with and go on as if it had never happened. She really was beyond painfully shy, the ones that got compliments were usually the ones that went looking for them. And Grace wasn't even looking for conversation, let alone for someone to see her assets. That and she had never even thought of herself as pretty. Each one of her scars was holding her back from that. They were ever-present reminders of what had happened, when exposed they warranted stares, probing questions. She would rather not have to deal with them.
As Nat laid down in the grass, Grace did the same so they would be on an equal level. Her pale eyes studied the ever-fascinating sky. Or at least it was only fascinating when it wasn't raining. Looking at the sky, she found, was a good pastime, looking at the stars was ever better. Of course, she performed very poorly in astronomy, she didn't like to put that kind of effort into it, to her looking at the stars was only that,a source of wonder, not analyzing. There are magical plant specialists, wrote Grace, and a lot of healing has to do with Herbology and Potions. They do seem to go hand-in-hand in most things.
Grace only shrugged, she had found that wizards did think of strange things, even lived in odd ways. When she had been adopted it was like going back in time- nobody had electricity (some were baffled even by the concept of it), people wore cloaks and wrote with quills. It was all very strange indeed.
