This had become a game. This man had been eluding her for days, sensing that she was trouble, yet unable to leave town. That was just how it was supposed to work. She'd disappeared off the face of the Earth for this, worked for five months to improve her condition. In five months, living underground, no where to turn but to the vampires in the catacombs underneath the greatest Russian cities, Cosette had learned to hunt. She'd learned to control her thirst... for the most part. She was still young, still had much to learn.
She was just now beginning to learn how to take only what she needed from her prey. There was the occasional slip-up, the occasional death, but Cosette couldn't be bothered with such things. Getting meals on the go was much easier now, and her thirst was much more under control than it had been to start. Still, nothing was perfect. She knew perfect control would take years, probably decades, of practice. Still, this didn't stop her from testing her abilities. For the past few days she'd been on the outskirts of London, hunting down a stranger. His blood was different, neither pleasant nor revolting. He was a good target.
Cosette stood in the shadows, using her extremely useful ability to further wrap the darkness around her frame. Her prey stumbled out of the pub, drunk off of his ass. Her nose crinkled in disgust. At least it would be easier to stop herself. She found that blood was no good unless it was pure, that alcohol merely poisoned the taste. Still, it was a good thing. Maks had taught her to pick targets accordingly, and this would help her self-control immensely. The man didn't suspect a thing.
Cosette hurried forward, hand lightly pressing on a pressure point in his neck, causing him to crumple to the ground, unconscious. She smirked. Too easy. Without hesitation, she bared her fangs, digging them into the man's wrist. Flesh opened, she began to feed, greedily. He tasted fine, not the best, but certainly not the worst. She thought back to her last meal, an Irishwoman drunk off of some of the most revolting beer Cosette had ever come across in all her days, as both a vampire and a human.
Wrenching herself from her meal, Cosette stood, dragging the body to an alleyway before placing her tongue on his wound, healing it. He wouldn't remember a thing, and he'd only be a little woozy. If she was lucky, he'd simply think he'd passed out from the excessive amounts of booze in his system. Licking her lips, Cosette wandered into the night street, red eyes dancing. Oh, how good it was to be one of the powerful.

Maks wandered the streets, his unseeing eyes a brighter shade of burgundy than usual, having just fed. Some woman, she hadn't even been drunk, was throwing herself at him, and it had been too easy to take advantage of that. He had taken only what he needed from her, leaving her still passed out on the bench of a bus stop. Normally, he might be a bit kinder and wake her first, but Maks had been a bit more reckless, he had been waiting find her for a while. He didn't see as much of her as he liked, as his presence was required back in the school.
His love was learning quickly to control her thirst, but she was not yet ready to be in the school. There were times where Maks himself could hardly handle it, though perhaps that was his own tendency to get overwhelmed. Because of his lack of sight, his senses of smell and sound were highly potent, more so than the average vampire. Sometimes, particularly when thirsty, being in a classroom full of pumping hearts and the scent of blood was enough to drive him mad. Maks figured he ought to invest in a discrete flask of some sort, rather than spend an entire class forcibly restraining himself.
Maks hadn't gotten terribly far down the street before he heard the sound of high heels clicking against the pavement, and not long afterwards caught one of the most wonderful smells he could think of. Cosette. Her scent wasn't quite as intoxicating as when she was human, mostly because she no longer produced nor circulated blood, but to him, there had never been another being, human or vampire, that had smelled so sweet. He caught up with her, knowing that she would have heard and smelled him long ago, even though he had approached from behind.
"It is a beautiful evening my sweet, no?" said Maks, shamelessly lassoing her waist with his arm. Here, they were free to not hide what they were. Sergei, the healer who had overseen Cosette's transformation, had given Maks a stern warning about their relationship, but had done nothing to expose them, merely told him to be cautious. There was enough of a disdain for their species already, they didn't need to add this to the list. But could he really be blamed? Maks loved his Cosette, and how could something that was so beautiful to him be something disgraceful?
Yes, she was his student, but she was of age, but more importantly, their love was genuine. Maks leaned in and placed a soft kiss against her lips. He didn't miss the difference in temperature, she was like him now. Maks no longer needed to worry about breaking her, she was no longer fragile to his touch.
