Isaac emitted a noise of surprise as he was jolted awake from his suddenly sour slumber. Had he been human he might have been covered in a cold sweat, but he was still entirely dry, hardly a visible hint of the nightmare left. Isaac looked briefly at Gabriella, but then turned his gaze away, as if he were ashamed. He was weak, hardly the protector he was supposed to be for his wife.

Trying to be encouraging, Gabriella gave him a half-smile, though it didn't come out quite right. She didn't really know what to say, especially when Isaac turned away from her, so Gabriella stayed silent for the moment. She briefly entertained the thought of going back to work, but decided that now that she had rescued Isaac, she had much less to do. That had been her priority for the past three months; now she would be back to normal assignments.
