Farewell *Jasmine*

Ryan paced back and forth wildly at the edge of the black lake. How could they have picked him?! Right after he had proposed to Jasmine! He pounded a fist against a tree several times, ignoring the cuts it caused. He swore at the blood and kicked a rock. They weren't supposed to pick him! He did it knowing that they wouldn't pick him. He couldn't drop out. Ryan collapsed onto the ground, staring at the setting sun over the edge of the lake. "How am I supposed to tell her?" He groaned to himself, burieing his face in his hands. He looked up at the footsteps coming behind him.

It was Jasmine, flaunting her wedding ring. She smiled at Ryan and sat down beside him. "Hey." she said casually, grinning. Then she noticed him expression, grief and pain. Then she noticed his hand. "You're bleeding!" she cried, taking out her wand. She fixed up his hand quickly. "Are you alright?"

Ryan gave her a feeble smile, but none of his heart was in it. "Hey" He sighed, closing his eyes. He opened them again and smiled at the glint of Jasmine's wedding ring, but quickly remembered his pain. "Define alright" He wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

Jasmine gave him a concerned look, then saw the fear in his eyes, and knew what was going on instantly. she shook Ryan off her shoulders and ran. She ran only two feet, and pounded on the tree. "No! It can't be, not you!" she screamed, tears streaming down. This was impossible, unthinkable. And it was real.

Ryan closed his eyes. He took a deep breath before standing up. He stopped Jasmine's fist before she could hit the tree again. She was stringer than he had thought. "I didn't plan for this to happen" He whispered. "Are you upset with me?" He asked, staring into her blue eyes.

Jasmine flung her arms around Ryan and burst into to sobs. "I..could...could never...be angry...with...y...you..." she sobbed into his chest. She was heartbroken, she wouldn't be able to see him virtually until their wedding day. She was devastated.

Ryan cradled her head to her chest. He stroked her hair comfortingly. "I-I-I don't know how it happened" He stuttered, voice tight. A lump had formed in his throat. "I promise I'll write, and-" He didn't know what else to say. He just hugged Jasmine.

Jasmine looked up. "Can't you quit?" she asked cautiously. Letters wouldn't help her, she needed him. She broke away and stared into the Black Lake, afraid to hear Ryan's answer. She just couldn't speak.

Ryan shut his eyes closed, trying really hard not to break down in tears. He took a deep breath and watched the last bit of pink dip into the water. "I can't, once the names have been drawn, there is no going back" He sighed. "I was so stupid, I shouldn't of entered. He slammed his fist against te tree over and over again until his hand was torn up.

Jasmine was swiftly over to Ryan in an instant. She gripped his fist firmly, not caring if his blood was getting all over. She attempted to stop bawling, to no avail. She pulled Ryan into a hug. "Please Ryan. I don't want to lose you." she whispered.

"You won't lose me..." He trailed off. He thought of Cedric Digory who had died crossed his mind. "I'll be just fine, it's you I'm worried about" He tried to give a feeble smile. "I can't stop love sick guys from climbing all over you while I'm away" He tried to laugh. It came out more as a shuddery breath.

Jasmine gave a half-hearted laugh as a reply, but her thoughts trailed over to Cedric, who had been murdered by Voldemort over two decades ago. She just couldn't bare to see him leave. "Why?" she managed to mutter out.

"Because I'm an idiot" He groaned, tugging on one of Jasmine's curls. He felt like he would burst, not being able to see her for a year. He closed his eyes, feeling tears sting at his eyes. He felt like he would die from broken heart, not from any stupid challenge...

Jasmine managed a famous smile. "And I'll be sure to murder those so called friends of yours while your gone and I'm dieing of a broken heart." she replied bitterly. She was a stubborn person, that much was certain, but being stubborn and in love made it all worthwhile.

Ryan slid a finger down from her temple to under her chin. He tilted her face up so he could meet her eyes. "You know you mean the world to me, right?" He asked softly and seriously. "I would die for you in a second, and I think I might die being away from you" He kissed her lips gently for a moment.
