Amadeus meandered down the corridor, exams for the second years had concluded that day, and without any homework to do he found himself exceptionally bored. So for the moment he allowed his feet to carry him to his typical haunt, that being the more empty sections of the dungeon corridors. Amadeus often came to these parts, if only to have a moment on his own to think. Or not do any thinking at all, but to simply exist without having to interact with anyone. His thoughts were going mostly to the Death Eaters, over Easter break that year Amadeus had told his father that he wanted to join. At thirteen he felt capable of making that sort of decision.
Draco, it seemed, had other ideas. He had said that his enthusiasm was encouraging, but that there was little use of a thirteen-year-old boy in their ranks. Boy. Amadeus hated the word, why was it that everyone continued to see him as a child? In just a few short years he would be seventeen! A bona fide adult! And yet he still wasn't allowed a racing broom, his mother was seemingly fussing over him worse than ever. Perhaps it was her own way of being in denial about the fact that her youngest child was finally growing up. Amadeus lightly kicked at the floor as he walked, biting his lip a bit. He hoped he would be able to talk his father into getting him a broom over the summer- the Slytherin seeker was a seventh year this term, and would leave him free to go out for the position in the fall.
He felt a certain soreness in his legs, it had been there a long while. Perhaps that meant he was growing. Would becoming taller mean that his parents might finally be able to accept him as a teenager rather than a child? As fate would have it, Amadeus was apparently not destined to be alone that afternoon, as the sound of footsteps alerted him to someone else's presence...

Raug walked down the corridor, Ivy on his shoulder. Insolent! the first year thought. The only part of his codex he didn't think to put in was a map of the dungeons.
If he would have thought a bit more he wouldn't be hopelessly lost. He had wanted to explore the grounds. Hestared down at his codex. Nothing. No matter how he asked it could not help him. Nat must be busy... else she would find a map for him.
Raug looked up to see a... Slytherin?

Ariadne had just come from the common room, when she noticed her brother, looking rather angry. He turned around a corner, and Ariadne leaned against the wall, pondering for a moment. Amadeus was normally one to wander around the dungeons when something was bothering him, but this seemed different. The look on his face was normally smug, or at the very least indifferent. However, he was now looking rather upset, and Ariadne felt for him. Though she'd never admit it, she was very protective of her younger siblings, especially Amadeus. Ariadne knew that her parents saw him as nothing more than a child, and Ariadne felt for him. Amadeus was more grown up than she was, in some ways.
Ariadne decided to follow him and console her dear brother. Robes fluttering, she started her pursuit, heels clicking against the cold floor. Ariadne rounded the corner, mind wandering. She was thinking less and less about Stefan, now that her probably with him had been solved, and was thinking more and more about the Death Eaters. It was a dangerous obsession, yes, but she couldn't help the fact that it was exceptionally fascinating. Ariadne rounded another corner and finally caught up to her brother. Amadeus had slowed down a great deal, and Ariadne caught up to him in no time. She smiled down at him, but said nothing, looking back up... To see a little Ravenclaw in their midst.

Amadeus looked up, faintly surprised to see not one, but two people. One was definitely a Ravenclaw, and by the looks of him, probably no older than a first year. At any rate Amadeus didn't recognize him. And then the other person was none other than one of his older sisters Ariadne. He wasn't particularly attached to his elder siblings, though Amadeus would consider them to be amongst the very few friends that he actually had. Most of the people he spent time with were those he bullied or bribed into doing things for him. It wasn't the best lifestyle, it certainly got lonely, and he was only now beginning to notice it.
"If you don't mind," Amadeus said to the boy, "I would like to speak to my sister." He hoped the kid would get the point that that meant he needed to remove himself from the area. Amadeus certainly wasn't going anywhere. Besides, the Ravenclaw was well out of his area, the dungeons were Slytherin territory, everybody knew that. And those who didn't figured it out pretty quickly.

Ariadne mustered a sneer, though she wasn't partial to being rude for no reason, her brother needed her. "You heard him," she said. "Scram." With one final glare at the Ravenclaw, she wrapped an arm around Amadeus' shoulders and turned the both of them around, walking in the opposite direction. "What exactly do you need to talk to me about?" she asked curiously. Ariadne had a lot to think about, and after killing a creature in the Forbidden Forest that had attacked her and her sister, Ariadne was almost certain she was going to join the Death Eaters after graduation.
Ariadne didn't really want to wait a month to tell her father that she'd decided, but she didn't have much of a choice. Joining whilst in school wasn't a smart option, since she didn't want something to get out that she'd joined. She couldn't possibly handle all the gossip, the questions, the judgement... Still, she hoped it'd be worth it. The sick thrill that she'd gotten from performing the Killing Curse had been just that, sick, but it'd been like nothing she'd ever felt. Ariadne had never felt more alive at that moment.

Amadeus was glad that Ariadne had backed him up, a first year might be gutsy enough to display defiance toward someone only a year above them, but not many of them would have it in them to go against a seventh year, especially if that seventh year was a Slytherin. He squirmed a bit as his sister put her arm around his shoulders, the gesture felt almost demeaning, as if she were continuing to solidify his position as the youngest one in the family. Amadeus wondered why he was suddenly so sensitive about it, but it was bothering him, continuing to be treated as a child.
"Do you..." Amadeus began, wondering how to best phrase what he was feeling, "ever feel that you're not taken seriously? Like nobody thinks you capable?" He wasn't sure if even those words worked the way that he wanted them to, but Amadeus felt that it was lose enough. He stuck his hands into his pockets, waiting for Ariadne to respond. Truth be told, he was grateful she had come along, but he had been hoping to see Izzie, out of all his siblings she seemed to understand him the best. Not that Amadeus played favourites exactly, but sometimes he found it easier to talk to her.

Ariadne frowned slightly, removing her arm from Amadeus' shoulders. Biting her lip, she pondered the question a moment. "Sometimes," she replied finally, looking ahead. Ariadne imagined that he was talking about their parents seeing him as a child, though Ariadne had never been talked down to by her parents. Being the oldest daughter, her parents had always expected her to be capable of anything. It was torture, but she learned to cope. Still, teachers had never expected much out of her. Because of her status and wealth, they expected her to slack and rely on her father, but she constantly tried to prove them wrong.
"It's not a fun thing," Ariadne replied, looking back down at Amadeus. "But, the only thing you can do is prove everyone wrong. You're a Malfoy, it's in your blood to push boundaries and show people who you really are," she stated with a small smile. "You've become a very strong and independent man this past year, Amadeus. Anyone who says or sees otherwise is an idiot," Ariadne added, placing a hand on her brother's shoulder. "I, for one, am extremely proud of you." Ariadne didn't dish out compliments, but she meant them when she said them. This was no exception.

From her tone Amadeus was certain that Ariadne had no idea what he was talking about. It was probably her position, she was the second born and the oldest girl, if anything she probably had pressure in a different way than he did. Not to stay young and innocent, but to grow up perhaps a little too quickly. He supposed that he would have to deal with it his entire life, perhaps even into adulthood. But how long would it go on, what would he need to do to break that image? Join the Death Eaters? Get married? Have children of his own, even? Amadeus didn't know if he could wait that long.
He felt his punctured pride receive some inflation as Ariadne said very kind things about him and what he had managed to become in the past year. For once he felt spoken to like he was his own age, instead of several years younger than what he actually was. Amadeus gave forth a true smile, the first genuine one he had conjured in a very long time. He didn't offer real smiles very often, it seemed almost out of place on his lips, but strangely as if it belonged there more so than his typical smirk. "Thanks," Amadeus said, that had been what he needed to hear.

Ariadne nodded, smiling slightly. "Anytime, Amadeus," she replied. The pair walked around a bit more in silence, with Ariadne gathering her thoughts. She was attempting to conjure up a reason Amadeus would be worrying about being thought of a child at such a random time. Yes, he was thirteen and entering a rather difficult time in a man's life. Ariadne keenly remembered Aries' puberty escapades, and could safely say that she did not miss those years and was happy to be leaving home shortly, not staying around for the most of Amadeus' pubescence. There was only one thing she could possibly imagine her brother for being pushed around for...
"So," Ariadne started, choosing her words carefully. "What do you think about Father's... dinner talks?" she asked finally. Amadeus would know what she meant by that. Every time the children were having dinner, Draco would bring up his... work. He practically flaunted the Death Eaters in their faces, and it had become a normal thing to listen to him rant about his "work" at the dinner table, though no one but Aries ever contributed to the talks.

Amadeus allowed the silence to wash over them as they walked down the corridor, faintly surprised at how easy it had been to talk to Ariadne that time, usually he felt that she didn't understand him. At least not as well as Ascella did, and certainly not as much as Aries. He couldn't remember the last time he had spoken to his brother, or even received a letter from him. Amadeus wasn't upset, per se, but he would think that his own brother wouldn't carry on with his career and not so much as bother to think of how his siblings were doing. He could only hope Ariadne wouldn't do the same.
It was odd to think, that after this term was over Ariadne wouldn't be at the school anymore. He'd be in his third year, Ascella in her sixth. Soon enough he would be on his own in Hogwarts, and that was even odder to think about. "They're..." said Amadeus, pondering the proper word to use, "enthralling. Why? You're thinking of siding with his views?" He kept careful to keep everything he said coded, in case someone came along they wouldn't understand what they were talking about.

Ariadne smiled a bit to herself. So she had been right about Amadeus wanting to join the Death Eaters. He too was fascinated by their father's talks. Ariadne could only guess at how that made him feel like a child, perhaps he'd already spoken to Draco about it? "Yes," she replied. "The next dinner we have at home," she added. Ariadne was going to approach her father after she graduated, doing exactly what Aries had done. She was rather looking forward to it, looking forward to proving herself and her cause. That's all she really wanted to do.
Ariadne wanted to defend her beliefs, her belief being that anything that potentially threatened her family, her existence, or her way of life needed to be eradicated. She loved her life the way it was, and anyone who threatened to take it away from her needed to vanish. Her point had been proven on her latest excursion with Izzie. The two had been attacked by an unfamiliar beast. It had scratched up Ariadne's arm and would have killed the both of them had the eldest Malfoy not used the infamous Killing Curse on the mangy creature. "And you?" Ariadne asked Amadeus curiously.

Amadeus felt a surge of happiness and jealousy at the same time, on one hand he was glad that his sister shared some of the same beliefs that he did, though on the other hand annoyed that he was not going to be allowed to join for several years. Again, back to where the whole thing had started, with his being too young for everything. Being seen as incapable. Amadeus was sure that the Dark Lord would be thrilled to have him, everyone else it seemed was not convinced of it. He allowed himself to smile, getting jealous was not going to help his cause.
"A wise decision," said Amadeus, "Father's friends seem to know how things are supposed to work." This talking in code was getting annoying, Amadeus would much prefer to use the proper words for things. But one never knew who could be listening, especially in a place like Hogwarts, where it seemed that even the walls had eyes and ears.

Ariadne grinned slightly, knowing very well Amadeus wanted to join. Father must have seen him as too young, and that had been where the very odd topic had come from prior to the Death Eater conversation. "You know," she replied offhandedly, smiling mysteriously. "I could always... fill you in on things that you miss, since you're sure to miss... dinner," she added, aggravated by the coding. Hopefully he knew that she was implying that she would keep him informed. "You could be my confidant," she replied, grinning at that point. It was hopefully enough, to include Amadeus without him disobeying his father.
Ariadne thought that, while her father was right and thirteen was too young, Amadeus was ready. He was a very mature teenager, and would pull through fantastically. If anything, it would age him more. Perhaps it was her father's way of not stealing his innocence away. Honestly, the Malfoy children had no innocence at this point in their lives. There was nothing to be stolen from, in Ariadne's opinion. Still, Draco's word was law, and if he disapproved of Amadeus joining at his age, then he would not be able to join anytime soon.

Amadeus could hardly believe his ears, was Ariadne really considering relaying information to him? That was more than he could have ever hoped from via their father. Draco seemed pretty insistent on Amadeus being left completely in the dark about the dealings of the Death Eaters until he was seventeen. It seemed almost hypocritical to Amadeus, who knew for a fact that his father had joined the right side of the Second Wizard War before he was of age. Perhaps Draco was only trying to protect him, though even that made Amadeus feel slightly angry, he didn't need protection, especially from daddy dearest.
"I'm glad that you never were terribly fond of rules," said Amadeus, going back to his signature smirk. Although manipulative and at times a bit of a jerk, Amadeus could be trusted with certain kinds of secrets. Ariadne could know for a fact that no one would ever hear about her being a Death Eater from him, and that anything she told him would be kept in the utmost secrecy. He might not be most morally sound person, but honour was a very important thing to him.

[blockquyote]"Never," Ariadne agreed, a small twinkle in her eyes. She trusted Amadeus, and knew that he'd never let her secret life spill out, especially if he desired information. Besides, he was her brother. The Malfoy brood may have not been the closest, but they were close enough to never reveal their brothers' and sisters' secrets. That one thing was for certain, at the very least. "So, it's settled then. I suppose I'm just the eyes and ears on the inside for you, no?" she asked teasingly, laughing gently. [/blockquote]
