Munchies (Silas)

Silas listened patiently as Nix explained that she was already lined up for a broom-design job, that sounded interesting to him. And now that he was thinking on it, he could recall that Nix was on the Gryffindor team, a chaser and the team captain if he remembered correctly. "I'm sure you won't get stuck for too long," said Silas, "broom models can take years, and the ones that come out with a new one each year I swear they just paint it a different colour." Silas saw that particular fault with the Nimbus line, especially when his parents were in school. Virtually the only difference between the Nimbus Two Thousand and the Nimbus Two Thousand One was a different colour, handling and speed were essentially the same. "Though that does sound cool," Silas added.

Nix gave a small grin at the broom comments from her friend and she did her best not to correct him, she knew all the small edit between brooms and those after them back for about 60 years. She gave a small grin and then tilted her head to one side a little, "I only really edited the firebolt a little, I levelled the balance and then increased the steering so it turns faster" she said in a small voice. She had of course done a few other things to the model and updated lots about it but she never liked to talk about it as she felt like she was too brook smart for her peers, "it seemed what I did impressed a scout that saw me on the broom later on and he bought the model from he and my business partner" she said with a little grin

Silas nodded, though he had never ridden a Firebolt before, so he wouldn't know how they handled. He himself still had a Cleansweep, a model that had come out in his third year when he had made the team, though he felt it served its purposes well enough. At any rate he felt the broom didn't matter quite so much as the person on it, except in extreme cases- an average player on a Firebolt could beat an excellent player on a Shooting Star any day. Those were painfully slow, his father still had one. "That's really cool," Silas said encouragingly, glad that Nix had had that kind of luck in spite of the fact that he barely knew her, he was almost always enthusiastic for others when good things happened to them.

"thanks very much" nix said with a smile as her supposed new friend spoke and she chuckled ,"you are the first person to say that and mean it and not just ask me for loans know that you know I have cash" she said with a smirk before she lifted a hand and ran it through her long red hair. "you much of a broom person yourself? I know it's down to talent in a qudditch game but a good player and a good broom means a sure win, what do you think" she asked with a smile before she just twisted her spine a little to pick up a goblet filled with pumpkin juice to take a drink

Silas laughed a bit, though found himself a little saddened at the same time. Did she not have friends that supported her? What about her family? He wasn't sure what he would do without his support group, though decided that it wasn't really his place to pry. Besides, they had only just met. Silas pondered a moment on how to reply- he liked Quidditch, though he viewed it as more of a hobby than anything else. He certainly didn't delve too deep into broom design, it wasn't a strong point of his. "I try to keep up with what's new in brooms," said Silas, thinking on his breaks from work and how he would amble over to the Quidditch supply store just to look at the flashy new brooms he'd never be able to afford. "I think there are a few more variables than that," Silas said thoughtfully, "though if you rule out things like fouls, injuries, and luck that makes sense."

Nix smiled as the hufflepuff spoke and she found herself very much enjoying talking, it had been a while since she had spoken about broom to anyone aside her adoptive brothers or Tain so It was nice to hear new views on the topic. "I think when you dumb it down to school qudditch level, it really is just how good you are on the broom. If your injured then the nurse won't let you fly and if your lucky then life is just being nice as far as i think" nix said with a chuckle as she thought of all the times she had tried to enter a match with broken fingers or limbs and she'd been forced to stay in the hospital wing

"Fair enough," said Silas with a smile after he had taken a sip of coffee. He himself had been fortunate enough to not get terribly injured because of Quidditch in the seasons that he had played. Silas, of course, had suffered bruises and a couple of sprained fingers, but beyond that nothing serious. "Of course, school and professional Quidditch are completely different, even if they keep the rules esentially the same," said Silas. Though they had a much smaller playing field, and he was sure that Hogwarts matches would end after a certain amount of time even if the snitch hadn't been caught. The professors probably wouldn't be happy if a match went on for a week or even longer.

Nix gave a small smile at the comment of the hufflepuff and then nodded her head. She looked down at her plate and saw she was running low on meat but nearly all the other plates on the table were empty and she knew that most other people had classes now so there wouldn't be anymore food for atleast another hour or so. She gave a small growl at the idea of no meat for a whole hour and then lifted her fork to find her last bit of sausage which she considered saving, that course would never happen so she simply bit it off the end of the fork and then placed the fork back on the plate and then considered what she could do next on such a nice morning

Silas finished his coffee and then bit into the piece of toast that he only then realized he had been holding for the past five minutes without eating it. Conversation did that to him, as much as he loved food and eating, he tended to get distracted easily. Especially when there were other people talking to him. It was only then that Silas realized that there was a pause in the conversation, and he wasn't exactly sure how to get it going again. Perhaps he would wait for Nix to say something, in the meantime he finished his toast and reached for one of the few food items still left, that being an orange from a bowl of fruit. Silas dug his thumbnail into the peel, waiting for conversation to resume.

Nix looked out the window only to see a a branch from the forbidden forest wave in to view and she gave a little chuckle and then shook her head ,"not yet, still got a few days until then" she said in a soft voice to herself as she ins honed her time with the werewolves each month. She turned her head back to the hufflepuff beside her and a thought popped in to her head and of course it came out her mouth ,"what do you think of werewolves?" she asked only to realised she had said something she only meant to think and she rolled her eyes at her own brain

Silas didn't quite catch the first thing that Nix had said, though with her soft tone it sounded like she had not meant for him to hear it, so he remained quiet, continuing to peel his orange. He had just pulled out a wedge of his fruit when Nix, quite out of the blue, asked him what he thought of werewolves. Silas was a little taken aback, not because he was prejudiced, but because it typically wasn't something someone came out and asked on a whim. "They're witches and wizards just like the rest of us," said Silas, "and I don't exactly agree with the way some people treat them, but I haven't a problem with werewolves."

Nix heard the hufflepuff speak and she fought back a small smile and then tilted her head to one side and then looked him over again before speaking ,"why? So you happen to know one or is that what people taught your or do you just think it yourself?" she asked with a curious tone. She lifted a hand to run it through her red hair again and paused in the action to twist a strand of hair around her finger and then tugged on it before flicking her finger and letting it drop as a curl in the middle of her forehead

Something about the way Nix looked at him with her inquisitive eyes gave Silas the impression that he was being scanned, it was a curious feeling, it felt foreign, though it didn't make him feel uncomfortable- just different. "That's just the way I personally feel," said Silas with a shrug, his parents hadn't ever said anything particular about it, though they had mentioned Remus Lupin on many an occasion. They had fought alongside him in the Order of the Phoenix, though he had died in the Battle of Hogwarts. "I haven't met a werewolf yet," said Silas, "though as I see it, "half breed" or not, pureblood or muggleborn, we're all witches and wizards- nobody's better than anyone else on that alone."

Nix listened to the hufflepuff speak and then tilted her head to one side again and gave a small grin ,"sorry for asking quite so off hand but it's just a little thing I like to here from new people because...never mind" she said before biting down on her lip to stop herself from keeping talking. She didn't need to give away her pack, even if she didn't know their human names or forms they could still get in to trouble from some of the others in the school or even in hogsmead.

Silas finally found a pause in the conversation long enough to eat a wedge of the orange that he had peeled, shaking his head lightly at himself for how easily he got distracted. Talking with people was the number one distraction for him, he did not multitask very well. With Silas he usually had to do one thing or the other, but very seldom both at the same time. "Erm, all right," said Silas, not sure if he was supposed actually reply to that or not. He busied himself with another slice of his fruit to mull over the silence.
