Alaina looked back up to Mr. Culpepper, " I most definitely am," She smiled again, " They really do look great, oh, and yes, charms in definitely my most favorite subject." Thinking that she may have over-reacted a bit she decided to tone it down. " Um, what was your favorite subject? At.. um, Hogwarts?" She gave a sort of smirk, and looked back down to her book eyes gleaming with excitement. Looking over to her still dripping wet tea-stained bag, she decided she'd do something about that later. Alaina looked back up to Mr. Culpepper.

Logan couldn't help but smile, it was great to be of actual help to someone and them appreciate it. Really, he liked to offer assistance whenever was possible, though was none too confident in his abilities to actually fix anything unless it pertained to books. Logan knew how to repair even hopeless cases, it was a knack of his, and as well as knowing the organization system the library kept forwards and backwards, it was what made his position as librarian such a good fit. His hopes for this interaction rose slightly when Alaina admitted that charms was her favourite. "S-same as yours, a-actually," said Logan, giving another nervous laugh, he really did not known how to conduct himself, "only one I w-was ever g-g-good at, really."

Alaina laughed a little, " Well that's something I don't hear often... It's usually all about Defense of the Dark Arts. Not that it's bad or any-" She stopped talking, whenever she got a little nervous she tended to babble. She yet again ran a hand through her hair and awkwardly looked to the ground. Alaina shifted her weight again and stuck her free hand in her pocket. Goodness what is wrong with me?! She thought furiously to herself. She looked back up to Mr. Culpepper with a sheepish smile.

Logan absently traced the handle of his cup with a forefinger, looking at his, at that point, untouched scone. He had honestly forgotten about it, first being distracted by his work, and then by Alaina. In looking at it again, it was awfully big... "E-exactly," said Logan, nervously laughing again, he couldn't exactly help it, the sound got past his lips before he could control it. Nervous laughter, stuttering, he really had no control over his sounds. Of course, his stutter was a lot better now than it ever had been, though he didn't think it would ever go away. "D-did you, um, want to s-sit down?" asked Logan, gesturing to the seat across from him when he finally registered that Alaina was still standing.

Alaina's face yet again turned red, for a moment she debated on whether to turn down the offer and walk away or sit down and possibly make a new friend. She finally decided on sitting down. "Um, sure..." She sat her books on the table, hung her tea-stained bag on the chair and sat across from Mr. Culpepper. Alaina put her hands together and glanced around the room. Poorly attempting to start a conversation she asked, " Um, so when did you decided to take up the job as the Librarian at Hogwarts?"

Logan noticed Alaina blushing, and in being unable to stop it, coloured a bit himself, he really wasn't used to this whole social thing. He much preferred his books. Though the young Ravenclaw seemed just about as good at interacting as he was, which was to say not at all good, so at least he could be mildly embarrassed instead of completely mortified. "W-well I, um, used t-to work at my family's b-bookshop, though it w-went out of, um, out of b-business," said Logan, going slowly to better articulate his words, though still tripping over them a little, "and then a-after the attack on the sc-school the old l-l-librarian retired, so I ap-p-p-plied for the p-post."

"Oh, well that's rather interesting... " Yet again looking around awkwardly, she crossed her legs and traced the cover of her book. The rain started to slacken up to a light drizzle now, the thunder only coming in small bursts now. Alaina looked to the ground and saw her key on the floor, she picked it up and stuck it in the pocket of her skinnies. She noticed Mr. Culpepper's face turn red, Alaina at random felt self-conscious. Although this happened often, she felt a tad worse this time.

Their conversation was dying quickly, and he could feel the moment beginning to get a lot more awkward, and not in a way that could be considered funny. Logan, unfortunately, had no idea how to save it, perhaps it might have been better if they had gone their separate ways. But he was determined to make it work, how, he head no idea, but he'd think of something. Surely. As he mulled over his thoughts, Logan broke off the corner of his scone with his fingers, popping the small bite into his mouth. They really did know how to bake here... "S-so, um, do y-you have any, um, any p-pets?" asked Logan, feebly trying to stir up conversation. He hoped Alaina liked cats, he could go on about his three felines for ages.

Alaina too felt the conversation dying, she was horrible at communicating. She tapped her foot lightly, making sure it was inaudible, to the background music dancing through the room. Noticing that Mr. Culpepper had asked her if she had any pets she replied, " Well if my owl counts.. His name is Blaze." She smiled this was a topic she liked, " I did have a cat a few years back, but life happens... And then of course I've made a few forest friends in my time." She laughed a bit, reminiscing about the times in the forest and what not. "What about you? You like animals?"

Wanting something to do with his hands, Logan broke off another piece of his scone, really, it was quite good. Were he more outgoing he might have asked for the recipe, though with the way he was he'd just have to make guesses until he got it right. A slight tinge of nutmeg, definitely, perhaps a pinch of cinnamon. Definitely orange zest, and there were definitely dried cranberries. He'd experiment later. He could probably get one of the house elves to recreate it flawlessly, but he was up for a project. Logan smiled, nodding along as Alaina spoke. Good, he had gotten conversation going again, it was decidedly awkward, but he had pulled them from uncomfortable silence. "Oh, yes," said Logan, "c-cats mostly, I've g-got, three. You'll see a l-lot of them c-come Se-September, I let them w-wander the l-library, you see."

Cats. Alaina liked them quite a bit, she'd definitely be hanging around the library this year. She enjoyed going there anyways. Alaina, when not at her dorm, outside, or in classes generally spent most of her time in the library anyways. Hey, at least he liked animals. This wasn't exactly the conversation she thought would have occurred, but at least they weren't sitting in silence. Alaina smiled politely. " Cats are rather interesting. I can't wait to meet them this September."

Logan grinned, he himself loved cats, there wasn't a better animal in his opinion. Such personality, particularly his, it was like they had human minds. Snickers, the calico, was an absolute sweetheart, and would show any and everyone affection. Grinch, like his namesake, was a total grouch, and it seemed only Logan was ever on his good side- and Cloudy, the pure white short hair, she reminded him a lot of himself. Shy, skittish, but once the trust barrier was built up, she was very cuddly. "I'm s-sure they'll like y-you," said Logan, smiling reassuringly, "they're q-quite found of at-t-tention, just not the t-tabby." He nervously laughed again.

Alaina smiled, she actually couldn't wait to meet them. It'll be nice having a few cats around Hogwarts. She couldn't wait for September anyways, finally getting back to Hogwarts. After the school had found out she was alone they found a rather special boarding home for her, it wasn't strictly a wizard/witch orphan home; but there were a few there. Alaina herself wasn't particularly fond of it, but she didn't have much longer there anyways. " I hope so, maybe I'll be able to warm up to the tabby." She looked to Mr. Culpepper, " What are their names?"

Logan couldn't help but smile, finally a topic that he could actually talk about. Really, his conversation skills evaporated when the subject moved away from books or cats, but now that it was on cats, he felt fairly comfortable. Of course, with friends he could talk about anything indefinitely, but with those he had just met it was a very different story. "Anyone is welcome to t-tr-try, but he's an in-in-insufferable g-grump," said Logan, with another trademark nervous giggle, "Well the c-calico is Sn-Snickers, Grinch is the d-disgruntled tabby, and then there's C-Cloudy, she's all wh-white." He wished his stutter would go away, it did tend to lessen as he got more comfortable, though it never vanished entirely, and increased tenfold when anxious.

Alaina laughed, she had a rather awkward laugh. But everything about the poor girl was awkward. " Well, I must say the names are fitting." She smiled, animals were her strong point. " I'll definitely try." Alaina noticed Mr. Culpepper's stutter, she just went with it. Her philosophy was there was something about us all that put us apart from the crowd.
