Julie stepped into the magnificently decorated Great Hall, it didn't look like the place that they ate their meals at any longer. There were six giant Christmas trees in strategic locations throughout the hall, decked with shimmering, golden decorations. Real fairies fluttered about toward the ceiling. Quite fittingly, it was snowing outside, giving the hall a very dramatic look. Julie felt as if she were all dressed up for no reason. She didn't have a date for the evening, yet had spent hours making herself up for the occasion. Truth be told, she was hoping Darren would be there, she wanted to impress him.
Julie looked around, things were just getting started for the fifth, sixth, and seventh years, she was one of the first ones to arrive. Soon the holidays would be upon them, Julie was planning on staying at Hogwarts, she wouldn't be able to bring herself to get anywhere near the house where her father had used to be. Refraining from biting her lip because of the dramatic lipstick she had applied, Julie instead popped her gloved knuckles nervously. She felt almost self-conscious in the dress she had made herself, it was quite form-fitting- it really showed off the body obtained through hard work at Quidditch. She almost wished she had left her hair down instead of putting it into the elegant bun it was currently contained in; at the very least it might cover her up a bit.
She took in a deep breath, feeling like a loser coming in by herself dressed so nicely. But if Darren didn't show up Julie would probably find Seamus and Hyperion, to her knowledge they didn't have dates either. When someone tapped her on the shoulder, Julie turned around to look at...

Darren had to refrain from licking his lips as he watched Julie enter the room. That dress was stunning on her, showing off her toned body nicely. She anxiously looked around, turning her back to him. With a few effortless strides, he was behind her, tapping Julie on the shouolder. When she turned, he smiled handsomely. Darrwn was dressed in a fine tux, hair messy yet charming. "Hello beautiful," he crooned.

Julie literally felt her heart leap into her throat when she saw that it was none other than Darren Richter, the very person she had been crushing on for quite a while. When he complimented her, her cheeks turned a light pink, she covered how flattered she was with a smile to convey her thanks. She swallowed a bit to be able to conjure words. "Hi Darren," said Julie, now smiling properly. The lack of a girl on his arm told her that he didn't have a date either, something which made her hopeful they might end up together that evening.

Darren smiled, happy that Julie seemed happy to see him. That, and the fact she seemed to not have a date. He took her hand and bowed slightly, kissing the top. "You look lovely," he whispered, his eyes staying locked on hers. A few girls glanced over, eyebrows raised. He ignored them. He didn't want the stares. Darren was getting what he wanted, a wonderfully attractive girl on his arm, to use over again. And, if he knew what he thought he knew, Julie wouldn't do anything to stop him.

Julie had to stop herself from giggling, something about Darren made her feel like a little girl with a crush on the local twenty-something, although they were not that far apart in age. Julie mentally told herself to act sixteen, cool and mature, not giddy like a twelve-year-old. "Thanks," said Julie, "you look handsome as well." She smiled a bit, it felt good to get romantic attention from a guy. Usually her interactions with guys were the type that were her friends and thought of her as something of a little sister. The fact was, that Julie was becoming a woman, and she was wanting males to view her as such.
