Blaize pushed open the door to Fortiscue's, he had asked Sydney to come by that afternoon if she could make it, and so, he was going to wait for her. Uncharacteristically for a warm, sunny afternoon the place was nearly deserted, the only other clients in the place was a mother with her two young children, each of them licking ice cream cones. Blaize took a seat near the window, there currently was not an employee at the counter, he assumed that he or she was in the back making a fresh batch of ice cream.
If Sydney didn't show up within a couple of hours Blaize would go home and find something to do. For being boyfriend and girlfriend he felt that he knew next to nothing about hi girlfriend's schedule, but still an owl confirming or rejecting his request would have been nice. Blaize frowned a bit to himself in thought. Due to the fact that he had asked for more working hours at Scrivenshaft's, Blaize had not had enough time to dedicate to his writing as he would like.
Blaize did oftentimes write on the commute, since his parents weren't always there to apparate him to work. It was frustrating being sixteen, so close to being able to do magic whenever you pleased, but so far away. Blaize reached into his messenger bag and pulled out one of his later works and began to write, using an enchanted quill that did not require ink. The bell over the door dinged, but Blaize was too wrapped up in his work to notice.

Sydney was ecstatic as she hustled towards Fortiscue's. The weather was nice enough for her to be in a short-sleeved blouse and a skirt with matching ballet flats. Her long brown hair cascaded down her shoulders as she stopped in front of the ice cream parlor. She peered inside to find her boyfriend Blaize busily writing something. Her heart leaped and she felt a pang in her stomach. She felt awful about not being able to write him back. Their owl had taken ill and refused to deliver their letters. Sydney wondered why her parents didn't have more than one messenger owl, but she shrugged the though off as she entered the shop. She hurriedly sat down across from Blaize, smiling gently.

Blaize jumped when someone sat down suddenly across from him, and quickly looked up from his novel-in-the-making. He grinned when he discovered it to be Sydney, just the girl he had been wanting to see for so long. "Hello, dear," said Blaize, laying down his quill. He quickly closed up his work, as for now his attention was to be on his girlfriend. "I'll um, buy you an ice cream," Blaize said.

"Hello to you too." Sydney replied with a smile. She merely nodded at his suggestion. She was perfectly capable of buying herself an ice cream cone, but she knew that men enjoyed doting on their women. It was the least she could do, allowing him to buy her a simple treat. Male ego's were so easy to feed, and even easier to break down. Sydney smiled to herself at that piece of knowledge. "How have you been?" she asked curiously as a waitress passed them. The woman stopped to take their orders and Sydney merely turned towards Blaize, allowing him to go first.

"Pretty well, thanks," said Blaize as he slipped his notebook into his messenger bag. As the employee came out from the back, Sydney looked to him, as if telling him to go first. "Um, a double scoop of Spumoni, please," said Blaize. It was his favourite kind of ice cream; dark chocolate, cherry, and pistachio all at once. The lady filled his order and handed the cone to Blaize as he pulled out his wallet in order to pay for their treats.

"A double scoop of chocolate." Sydney replied with a dazzling smile. She watched as Blaize took out his wallet and handed the lady money. She took her cone when offered it, and then looked over at her boyfriend. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion, a clock ticking gently with each minute. She wondered briefly why. Nothing seemed to have changed since she first saw Blaize this morning. Except her pulse had quickened, and her face had flushed. Sydney hid her embarrassment at her sudden girlish quirk behind a lick of the cold ice cream. She prided herself on her strong ability to stay calm, and this irked her to no end.

Blaize led the way back to the table that he had previously claimed with his bag and sat back down as he licked the spumoni. He wondered briefly what he should do or say, his socially awkward mind was not coming up with anything that sounded acceptable. He resisted the temptation to run a hand through his hair and continued to lick his ice cream. "Glad you could make it," said Blaize, not mentioning that she had failed to respond to his letter, he understood that sometimes people forgot, or owls got lost, and the like.

Sydney felt a pang of guilt. "About that. My owl was a bit of a... pest. The old thing wouldn't deliver anything. I'm sorry." she replied softly, punctuating her phrase with a lick of her ice cream. She genuinely felt bad about that. She would have definitely respond, had she had the means. Sydney made a mental note to buy herself a new, young owl that would deliver the letters. It was only fit, and only fair to Blaize. She didn't want to be the bad girlfriend.

"It's not your fault," said Blaize after swallowing. He had heard many a tale from his father about an elderly owl that his Grandma and Grandpa Weasley used to have named Erroll, he would crash land into breakfast tables, smash into windows, and get lost on even the simplest of deliveries. "So are you um, enjoying your holiday, then?" asked Blaize.

Sydney shrugged. She took another taste of her ice cream before replying. "It's alright. The weather's been iffy lately." she replied simply. Within the past few days the weather was a bit on the chilly side. And rainy. However, it wasn't that bad. Sydney absently ate her ice cream, not really sure what to talk about. The silence wasn't too awkward in her eyes, but she wasn't able to get inside Blaize's head to see if he thought the same thing.

"Well, that's England for you," said Blaize with a shrug. "But it's not too bad today, nice and sunny." He supposed that it would take some getting used to for Sydney, especially since she had come from France, where the weather was agreeable most days out of the year. It must be a nice change over the nearly incessant rains of the United Kingdom.
