"Are you sure you're all right?" Hermione asked for the umpteenth that day. "Yes, I'm fine," said Emily replied, lying for the millionth time it seemed. The days passing felt nothing but tense and awkward to Emily; but unusually, Ron was treating her very nicely, almost to the point of being awkward. Emily could only watch as her mother frowned, be still as she laid a hand gingerly on her forehead. "You're looking a bit peaky," Hermione commented softly. "You don't have a fever..." Emily had to refrain from rolling her eyes.
"Mum, I told you I'm fine," Emily insisted. She could tell by the look on her mother's face that she wasn't going to hear any of that. Nobody ever believed what she said anymore, probably since she didn't care much about making her lies terribly convincing. "If you're certain... Your father and I will be back late, I've left the number of where we'll be on the table, there are some leftovers in the fridge for supper, don't burn the house down." said Hermione and put a soft kiss on Emily's forehead.
"Bye mum," said Emily. After the car pulled out of the driveway, Emily got up from the couch to go into the kitchen. She threw away a portion of the leftovers and stuck some dishes she smeared with sauce in the sink, to make it look like she had already eaten. Emily forced down a small bite, so if Gabriella happened to be around it would smell as if she had had a portion. Once she had planted the evidence, Emily made her way upstairs to go to her room. Now at the top of the stairs, she felt suddenly dizzy. Emily gripped the railing tightly, taking deep breaths in attempts to steady herself.

Gabriella unlocked the front door with a click, feeling a bit lucky that she still had a working key. It seemed like something that Ron would do to change the locks so that she could no longer get in with ease. Closing the door behind her, Gabriella looked around, feeling a bit like a stranger in the place she had always called home. "Blaize? Emily?" she called, hoping someone was here. It was clear, from the car leaving, that he parents were going out somewhere.
Smelling both Emily and food mixed with trash, Gabriella took a few steps toward the kitchen. She walked over to the sink to find that her sister had already eaten. Then she heard the breathing coming from the stairs. Gabriella peeked upward and widened her eyes at the sight of her sister, breathing heavily and looking more than a little sick. "Em, are you alright?" Gabriella asked, coming up quickly. Her sister's heartbeat was rapid, and though she smelled slightly like meatloaf, it didn't appear as though she had eaten in days.

"Yeah, I'm okay," Emily said lightly, not loosening her grip on the railing. "Just got dizzy all of a sudden..." Nobody was going to find out about her rather destructive behaviours, especially her older sister. But no doubt Gabriella could smell the old wounds, see how thin she looked under clothing that had fit perfectly fine a few months ago... Emily hated having a vampire for a sibling, not that she didn't love her sister, but she couldn't get away with doing anything.

Gabriella didn't believe her for a moment. It was obvious that Emily was hiding something, as she had right after her rape, and Gabriella had a feeling it was probably the same thing, judging by the stench of stale blood that lingered around her sister these days. But she was afraid of upsetting her sister further by mentioning it. Gabriella couldn't let her sister get away with not eating, though. "Maybe you should eat something," she commented. "There's lots of food still in the fridge."

"I'm not hungry," said Emily, it was the first truthful statement she had said in a very long while. She knew it was no use trying to lie to Gabriella, who could tell instantly, so something like "I already ate," wouldn't work. Even if there were dirty dishes in the sink to supposedly prove that she had. It worked with Hermione surprisingly, but Emily could tell there wasn't any fooling Gabriella. Not anymore. Emily stood as if frozen, trying to shun the feeling of dizziness.

Gabriella nodded slowly; that she had less trouble believing, though she couldn't help but think that Emily might be fooling herself on that department. "Want to watch television or something?" she asked, feeling as if she should stay with her younger sister for a while. Leaving Emily alone to destroy herself was not a good idea, and it didn't appear as though Blaize was around.

Emily thought on this a moment, what would she have said to this last summer? Thinking on it, she probably wouldn't be home at this time last year. Truth be told, she was far too frightened to go out on her own, so she stayed pretty house-bound these days. "Okay," said Emily, that would mean going all the way down the stairs again to get to the living room... She would just have to pretend that everything was perfectly fine...

"Good," Gabriella replied, backing up enough to allow Emily to stand up without thinking Gabriella was hovering over her, but still remaining close enough so that if Emily felt dizzy again Gabriella could catch her without too much effort. "Where did Mom and Dad go tonight?" she asked, stepping down a few steps and waiting for her sister to get up.

"Some restaurant; it was kind of funny since Mum spent a good chunk of the afternoon trying to convince Dad to go with her to the theatre." said Emily, going down the stairs a bit more slowly than she would have done a few months ago, but she felt it to be a good pace, especially with how unsteady she felt. Emily was grateful for the couch as she plopped down on the end, leaving enough space for her elder sister. Ron had been strange around Emily ever since she had come home, they didn't fight like they usually did, he was treating her as if she would break if he so much as raise his voice.

Gabriella laughed slightly at the thought of Ron going to a theater. He definitely wasn't the type to go see a show or anything. Gabriella allowed her sister to go down the stairs first, following suit and worrying slightly. Emily seemed unusually frail, like she was starving herself or something. Hopefully this didn't mean her depression was coming back. Gabriella sat on the other end of the couch and turned on the television. "What do you want to watch?" she asked.

"Anything remotely entertaining, there hasn't been much on the telly recently." Emily said indifferently, slight frown on her lips. With all her evenings spent at home, she pretty much had the schedule for every channel and every day of the week memorized. It was Wednesday; there usually wasn't anything good on, but some of the higher channels tended to play interesting films at this time of the night.

Gabriella flipped through the television channels, vaguely thinking that she hadn't watched television in quite a long time. Between her two jobs, wedding plans, and previously, school, she had been quite busy. Today was one of her rare days off, which was why she had come home in the first place. Getting toward the higher channels, Gabriella grew slightly bored of looking. "Let me know if anything interests you," she commented, flipping past a bad comedy show and a soap opera.

"Fat chance," Emily sighed, adding a slight roll of her eyes. That was perhaps the most 'Emily-ish' thing that she had done all day. It felt as if she were losing herself; she had forgotten how to be happy, smiling felt difficult and foreign on her lips, and she had lost all interest in things that she had used to love. Her life before the rape seemed so distant, a vague wisp of a memory.

Gabriella chuckled slightly and continued flipping through the channels, becoming increasingly annoyed at the lack of good shows on. "Maybe we should do something else," she suggested after another moment of the unnecessary clicking of buttons. It didn't appear that anything remotely good was on on Wednesdays.

"Perhaps," said Emily after a pause, light frown remaining on her lips. She felt as if she might faint if she had to stand again, but she would just have to maintain the best that she could; to avoid unnecessary attention to her. Emily didn't care that if she kept going this path she would eventually die from blood loss, or malnutrition, but she didn't care.
