"I have since fourth year," said Levi with a laboured shrug of his shoulders. He probably should have invested in a backpack before this term had began, since his black and grey messenger back put all that weight on one shoulder, but had forgotten and was a bit too lazy to go out and get one. Levi walked next to Raychel on the way to the library, resisting the urge to take her hand by shoving both of his own hands into his pockets.

Raychel too had to place her hands in her pockets. The walk to the library was full of silence. It was only slightly awkward, but only because of her attraction towards Levi. Something about him made her swoon. She had taken notice of him for a long while, but now that they were seemingly friends... Raychel had to shake the daydreams out of her head as they entered a library. The two walked and found a table up front. The library was deserted, but that was common.

Levi opened his messenger bag and began pulling out book after book. He had had to enchant it to be able to carry all his things, but at least that meant he could stack his books by subject, so he could easily find everything he had to use. Levi opened three books, all for ancient runes, and pulled out a fresh scroll of parchment and a pot of black ink and his eagle feather quill.

Raychel took a moment to admire magic. Not many other people, save a few Ravenclaws, carried enchanted messenger bags. She watched as Levi swiftly navigated his way to a certain page in each book, and began taking notes. She was in awe. Runes were fascinating to her, but she didn't sit and decipher them often. When she did, she knew what she was doing, but not like this. This was too efficient for her. Raychel was in utter awe.

Levi slipped into complete concentration as he translated the runes. The professor had recognized him as extraordinarily advanced in the subject, and was now giving him higher level work, the kind that translated first into elven, Latin, Greek, or other ancient languages, and then had to be translated from that to English. His books were primarily for the other languages, since he only fluently knew elven.

Raychel watched with curiosity. Levi's concentration was astounding. She noticed the books were all in different languages. Raychel smiled to herself. What an odd way to learn a language. She stood and browsed the bookshelves behind her, looking for something to read.

Levi worked without pausing on his assignment. For sixth years in ancient runes, they had been given an entire book of runes based on skill level, and they had to translate the entire thing into English. It was due next Tuesday and was worth 45 percent of their grade in the class. Levi was on the second to last page, and was looking forward to having the assignment over with, even if he enjoyed decoding runes.

Raychel watched Levi fly through his assignments. She began daydreaming, for no particular reason. Visions of traveling with her parents filled her head. And something else occasionally slipped into the spaces. Levi. He was in every corner of her mind. His hair, his eyes, his smile, everything. He was present in every image. She had to stop her blush before it reached her entire face and neck. Her ears had already grown hot, and she didn't need to have her entire face in flames.

Caedes. Levi had come across a word that he had no idea what it was for once. This portion translated into Latin, which wasn't he strongest area. He made a mental note to work on that language over the summer. Along with Greek. He didn't need to be fluent, Levi just needed the basics. He then began scanning through the book, trying to find a reference to caedes anywhere, but it proved to be a difficult task. Only when he skimmed through four chapters did he find that the word translated to "killing," and then continued with his work.
