First Prank (anyone)

Isaac was in that mood again, it was time to play a prank. Sure, school had only started a few days ago, he couldn't refrain any longer. It was just before curfew, and he was ready. He pulled out his wand and peered around the suit of armor he was hiding behind. The coast was clear. Isaac grinned, drawing his wand and pointing it at the floor. He muttered a spell he had learned that made things unbearably slippery, and had no counter-curse, it had to wear off. The floor didn't look any different.

Isaac frowned, perhaps it didn't work. He stepped out from behind the suit of armor and onto the floor. He slipped, and fell flat on his back, skidding about ten feet. He grinned when he came to a stop, then crawled back to the stairway down to the dungeons. This was going to be great.

Gabriella was walking fast when she came to the entrance hall and slid down onto her back. As soon as she stopped she crawled back to where she had come from. "Curse you Isaac Malfoy," she muttered to herself. She stepped back, got a running start and jumped onto the slippery floor, sliding on her toes to the other side. "Beat that!" she said to him, knowing he was around somewhere.

Ariana had watched the whole thing from a nearby classroom. Now that someone had initiated a start of year prank she would be able to build off of it. She watched her cousin curiously, her graceful moves to abnormal. Ariana cocked her head to one side, thinking. But ever since that Veela showed up, there was something about her that ruined Ariana's creative flow. Often she was inspired by her love life, but that had decreased at an alarming rate since the Veela cast her spell on Ariana's boyfriend. She was three years older and had stolen her boyfriend! Ariana took a deep breath and stood up. "I think he crawled away to the dungeons" She told GAbby, sliding smoothy across the floor to her cousin. "You missed the pretty boy...but he's bound to be back"

Gabriella raised an eyebrow, looking at Ariana curiously. "And who is this pretty boy of whom you speak?" she asked, wondering if Ariana was still refering to Isaac, or Gabriella's current boyfriend, Alec. Gabriella smiled softly at her cousin, waiting for a reply.

Ariana rolled her eyes, dancing around on the slippery floor, never losing her balance. All of her lessons and competitions growing up for gymnastics and ice-skating and dance gave her great balance. "Who do you think?" She asked, matching Gabby's breezy tone. "THe one who won't stop pining for you!" She laughed and twirled, her black hair flipping around her face.

Gabriella was still confused. "Right," she replied slowly, setting her bags down onto the floor outside of the slippery zone. She jumped onto the floor again, spinning crazily, but never once falling. Finally, she purposely fell to the ground, sliding along on her back.

Ariana laughed and dove on her stomach. She grabbed the wall and hoisted herself to her feet. She continued to spin, missing the ice on the black lake. "Isaac still likes you, it's rather obvious!" She grinned as she leapt into the air graceully. One foot slid out from under her as she landed. She slammed onto her but as her head banged against the wall. With a grunt, she stood up again, watching Gabby's response.

As the words came forth from Ariana's mouth, Gabriella was standing again. She fell instantly, sliding backward into the wall, as though she was stunned. She just sat there for a moment, thinking hard. How can he like me? she demanded in her thoughts, He broke up with me!

Ariana had predicted the response. She broke into uncontrolable giggles. "Your rather dense" Ariana laughed cheerfully, leaping into the air again. This time she landed it. "His father found out about you two..." She stopped there, that was all she knew.

Gabriella suddenly felt like barfing again. It was all her fault, she had gotten it all wrong, and now she had a different boyfriend. And Isaac had only broken up with her for her own good...or so he thought. "I have to get to class," Gabriella said suddenly, and with as much grace as she could muster, she stood up and walked, well slid, over to her books and walked away.

"BUT IT'S ALMOST CURPHEW! CLASSES WERE OVER HOURS AGO!" Ariana slid to a halt and called after her cousin. "Don't tell anyone I told you! I used one of those ear things to eavesdrop!" She shouted. SHe groaned and picked up her stuff. With her luck a prefect would swoop down on her and blaim her for this prank.

Isaac had been just in the doorway to the stairs that led to the Dungeons, behind the wall. Great, now Gabriella knew because of her stupid, eaves-dropping little cousin. He had never meant for her to find out, she would insist that she didn't care if his father threatened to kill her. Gabriella didn't know just how dangerous he could get... "Damn." Isaac whispered, then retreated to the common room.

"Shut up Araina!" Gabriella hissed at her, her voice becoming unusually cruel. "You've done enough damage for one day." Gabriella picked up Isaac's scent and realized that he had overheard them. This was all too much. Gabriella pulled out her wand and sent her books back to her dorm. Then she bolted for the front doors, sprinting outside into the cool air.

Ariana felt tears come to her eyes. She had ruined everything. Ariana left her stuff and bolted across the floor, not tripping. She ran into an empty class room and slammed the door behind her, pulling out her knife...

Gabriella was mad, much angrier than she could ever remember being. Finding out the reason behind the break-up seemed to have set off a bomb and she felt like she was going to explode. Running into the forest she stopped and kicked a tree as hard as she could. The tree buckled over under her strength and Gabriella kicked the ground in frustration. She fell to the ground, tears leaking into her eyes as she did so.

A few minutes later the anger had worn off, replaced only by sadness, and guilt. She hated herself for yelling at Ariana. It was hardly her cousin's fault. Gabriella stood back up, wiping the tears from her face as she began to walk back toward the castle. Her hair blew wildly in the wind and suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by...
