Rue had just discovered that she was with child. A beautifully healthy boy, from the looks of the crystal ball-thing she had consulted. She should have been frightened, furious at herself. But, she wasn't. Rue wasn't one to just idle by, to whine and complain. She'd take this in stride, and provide for the child as much as she could. And, for some, peculiar reason, she was happy that Stephen was the father. It was so much better that way. Rue wasn't sure why, but she loved Stephen, especially now that she was carrying his child.
Still, Rue was scared, scared to tell her parents. They were pure, gentle, and definitely would throw their eldest child to the curb as soon as they could when they found out. Rue needed to find a place she could go to before telling her parents, for security. She was also scared that Stephen would leave her. They hadn't been dating long, but Rue didn't want him leaving her. It would be just too damn frustrating. Surprisingly, Rue hadn't shed any tears, for all her fears. Footsteps sounded in the grass beside her, and she turned her head, her hand instinctively going to her stomach, lovingly holding her unborn, barely developed baby.

Stephen needed to talk to Rue, once the initial shock of Katrya informing him of his girlfriend's pregnancy had worn off he had formulated a plan. He just hoped that Rue wasn't going to get an abortion, now that he had gotten over what had happened, Stephen wanted to see his son or daughter. After all, he or she would be half his. It was surreal to think about, but he had accepted it. "Rue," Stephen said quietly, greeting her with a kiss on the forehead, "can we talk about something?" He hoped that she had learned of her pregnancy already, Stephen didn't want the moment to be any more awkward than what it was already going to be.

Rue looked up and gave Stephen a tentative smile, happy it was him, yet scared all the same. However, hearing his tone, and seeing the look on his face, she knew her fear wasn't needed. He knew already. How, she did not know, but he did. Rue felt her gaze, once so strong and direct, fall from Stephen's face to her lap, where her hands were clenched tightly, the only sign of her discomfort. Instinctively, Rue leaned against Stephen's strong chest. "It's a boy," she replied softly.

Stephen smiled, it was a bit unsteady, but he alreaady knew what he was going to do. A son, he was going to have a son with Rue. The thought was petrifying, but exhillerating at the same time. He still had a feeling that his mother was going to be angry with him about the whole thing, but they still had time before they had to tell anyone. "I'm here for you," said Stephen, "and our son." He wrapped his arms around Rue as she leaned against him, experiencing such a weird combination of fear and happiness.

Rue smiled crookedly, her eyes closing peacefully. "Stephen," she cooed gently, taking her hands and placing them across his. "My parents will kick me out. I'm sure of it. But that's not important." Rue craned her head around, opening her eyes and scanning Stephen's face. "We can do this," she whispered, barely audible, but clear enough. "We can," Rue repeated softly, more to reassure herself than anything else. Lightly, she pecked Stephen's jawline, smiling softly. "I'm happy he's yours," she added quietly.

Rue's words had sort of a calming effect on Stephen, they had not known each other for very long, but she never failed to make him feel mroe sure of himself. "Me too," Stephen said quietly. In many ways he was not ready to become a father yet, but he had come to terms with it. They were going to have a son, it was mind-blowing to him. "If they throw you out, you can come stay with me," said Stephen, suddenly feeling almost fiercely protective of Rue, "I'll look after him once he's born, so you can finish school."

Rue turned in his arms, eyes wide. He'd do that, for her? Take her in, take care of their child and let her continue her education? "Stephen, thank you!" she cooed, pulling him forward and locking her lips gently, but passionately with hers. When they parted, she smiled at him. "This is so backwards. But I've never been one to follow directions," she quipped with a soft laugh. Her eyes were twinkling with her happiness. It was unbelievable, that Rue had a person to be there for her. And it wasn't as if they'd have too much time before they were adults. Stephen was graduating in a month, and Rue a year after that. They'd make it. They were really going to make it. Rue had no doubts about that.

Stephen smiled after Rue broke the kiss, he was glad that he had been able to do something that would make her happy, especially after he had gone and messed everything up. He suddenly felt a lot more sure of himself about the whole thing, they were going to do this together. And if his parents refused to let Rue live with them... He would just have to find himself a job and a flat for the three of them. "We've always been a little backwards," said Stephen. A son... Stephen could hardly believe it.
