Emily laughed lightly as Gage played along with her. As he linked their pinkies back together she bumped her shoulder with his playfully before letting her gaze drift to the others around the park. This was what she liked about spending time with Gage, she didn't feel the need to fill the silence with mindless chit chat, they were simply that comfortable with one another.
That though didn't stop her from opening her mouth to talk once more, "I got made Co captain for the team this year." she said proudly, she'd recieved the confimation of her promotion to co captain on the Quidditch team only yesterday morning.

There was that laugh, the one that he liked so much. Something about it seemed completely genuine to Gage, he had found that he hadn't ever heard Emily give forth a fake laugh. Or she might have and was just good at it. He licked his ice cream some more, owing to the fact that it was warm outside and he would rather not have it melt all over his hand. He beamed when Emily mentioned that she had been named co-captian for the Hufflepuff team. He was proud of her, it was a title he himself would never get.
Gage was fine with that, he knew that he got into far too much trouble to be trusted with any sort of leadership position. But that didn't mean he couldn't be enthusiastic for people that could handle the responsibility. "That's great!" said Gage, beaming, "you're the best chaser they've got, they had to give it to you." He adjusted his pace again so he wouldn't be walking too fast for the pace that Emily had set for them.

"They call me little Miss Responsible...I think they know I like the extra work." she chuckled, she often got made fun of for how responsible she was, but she was genuinly touched her team had trusted her with such a responsibility. Many wouldn't believe being co captain meant that much, but to Emily it did, it was just another on a long list of achievmets she could be proud of earning.
"I just hope it doesn't affect my studies, I already have prefect duties..." she said thoughtfully, lickig her ice cream, and savourig the taste of the chocolate on her tongue, it was melting rather quickly.

Gage grinned, at first he wouldn't think that he would go for someone like Emily, outsiders might think them incompatible. He was outgoing, carefree, and almost reckless in a way- she was the classic good girl, a prefect, someone people could look to as an example. "They know you can handle it," Gage corrected lightly, if anyone could be trusted with a leadership position it was Emily. He brought her hand up so he could lightly kiss the back of it before letting both their hands drop back down again. Today already seemed like a beautiful day to Gage, one he hoped would only get better.
He licked his ice cream to avoid having a trickle of the melted confection find its way onto the back of his hand. "If anyone can do it, it's you," said Gage encouragingly, he was sure that it would be a lot of work at first, but Emily would be able to manage it if given the time to figure it out. Gage returned to his ice cream, just glad to have the day to walk around with Emily instead of just sitting around at home trying to amuse himself.

Emily smiled, "I hope so..." she said trailing off. It's not that she was worried, she just didn't want to let her team down, this year she was determined they'd win the Quidditch cup, Hufflepuff deserved the win this time around in her eyes, and their team was getting better and better. When Gage kissed the back of her hand she felt her cheeks flush with colour and she leaned into his shoulder a little.
"I hope you right..." she said, licking her ice cream again, before smirking and looking back at Gage, "One thing I am sure of though is that Gryffindor best watch themselves on the field this year..." she said confidently with a nod and a wink in his direction.

Gage offered Emily an encouraging sort of smile, she didn't have any reason to doubt herself, if anyone could handle balancing prefect duties as well as a Quidditch team it was her. He of course, would probably fail miserably. He had difficulties enough keeping up with schoolwork and Quidditch. And he wasn't exactly the best person to look to as an example, even if he did know his way around the Quidditch field. Gage didn't exactly know how he could even exercise authority over his fellow teammates anyway. He was more of a friend than a leader to people.
"I am right," said Gage, "you'll be fine." He licked at his ice cream to keep up with the rate that it was melting, and then smirked when Emily said that he and the rest of the Gryffindor team would have their work cut out for them. He didn't doubt that, it seemed every year that all the teams got better, stronger, and faster. "I like my chances," said Gage, winking. Besides, he had always favoured a match that was a challenge rather than an easy win. He liked to be able to use his skills.
