Dominique hurried into her apartment, slamming the door behind her and quickly turning to lock it behind her before taking a step back. Her bag slipped from her shoulder onto the floor, landing with a thumb as she raised her trembling hands to cover her face, only now feeling the wetness on her cheeks from the tears still falling. Letting out a small sob she tried to catch her breath, her chest feeling incredibly tight as she struggled to regulate her breathing, running so far had left her breathless.
Her body ached from the curse which had just been inflicted upon her outside the hospital. Auror's had arrived to take statements and so soon, after giving hers Dominique had hurried home, incredibly shaken up by the attack. It had been Death Eaters, and they'd escaped with a patient who'd been getting brought in at the time. Dominique hadn't even had a chance to register what was happening before she was hit over the head, kicked where she fell and subjected to the Cruciatus curse for what had felt like hours but was a mere minute.
Of course she'd been offered security to get home but she'd simply wanted out of there. So she'd ran, all the way home...at one point she'd been sure upon rounding the corner onto her street she'd heard someone call her name, but she'd ignored it, wanting to get inside as quickly as she could. Now she was hear she found she could finally breath, her heart rate and the terror she'd felt lessening somewhat in the safety of her own home.
Letting her hands drop away from her face she blew out a long steady breath. Her hands still shook as she quickly shrugged off her jacket, only then noticing the blood on the back of it. Reaching up she gingerly touched the base of her skull, wincing slightly when a jolt of searing pain shot through her, ignoring the state of her hair which was in slight disarray. Pulling her hand back she saw blood, coming from the place she'd been hit, which was obviously seeping through her hair and down her neck. Sighing quietly she tossed her jacket onto the counter and moved forwards to the sink.
As the moved she stopped beside the mirror, lifting her shirt she saw the bruises already forming on her back and the left side of her stomach from the kicks she'd received. There were scuffed footprints staining her white shirt, though before she could think of removing it there was a loud knock on the door, startling her greatly. Smoothing down her top she grabbed her wand and moved towards the door. Taking a calming breath she unlocked it quietly before quickly opening it, her wand gripped tightly in her fingers before she finally saw who it was...

Hayden had been doing what he always did during the day, that being hunting down one of his assignments- which had surprisingly lead him to this side of town, rather than down Knockturn Alley where most of the creeps he found hid out. This one was one he might dub a "runner," he didn't stay to fight, he simply moved about frequently and did a hell of a good job never staying in one place long enough for someone to be able to recognize him. A frustrating case, though one that Hayden knew would pay well- hence why he had taken it in the first place.
His target had defaulted on an under-the-table loan, and the person looking to collect payment had grown tired of searching for him, and had instead hired Hayden to track him down, and bring him back alive, but "joustled" as his instructions had stated. Hayden lightly shook his head at himself as he rounded a corner, not sure where he should even begin. Last he knew the debtor was in the area, though he had likely fled at this point, the man had evaded Hayden twice already- he seemed to know what was going on no matter where he was. It was more than frustrating, and he found himself growing impatient.
Hayden looked up when he saw a flash of blonde hair dart past him, and that scent, he would know it anywhere... Dominique! She looked scared out of her mind, so unsteady in fact that she hadn't even noticed him on the street corner. "Dominique!" Hayden called after her, though she didn't stop. Forgetting entirely about the man he was supposed to be finding and instead tearing after her, though she was moving remarkably fast. That was one thing about his massive size he supposed, he wasn't terribly fast on his feet.
He watched as she disappeared into her flat, took a moment to catch his breath and then pounded on the door- likely a bit louder than he normally would have- but he didn't like the look that he had seen in Dominique's eyes. That fear, how unsteady she was. When she opened the door he looked her up and down, she looked shaken, though not too badly hurt. Nevertheless he put his hands on her shoulders, looking her straight in the eye. "Are you all right?" asked Hayden. What had happened would come later- he needed to make sure she was fine first.

Hayden. He'd been the last person she'd thought she'd see here, but he was a welcome sight nevertheless. She lowered her wand, a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding being released as she relaxed ever so slightly. Hayden was worried though, she could see it flooding off him in waves as he looked her up and down, had it been him who'd called her name outside? His hands were on her shoulders as he looked straight into her eyes, asking if she was okay.
Was she okay? No...not at all..."Not really..." she replied quietly with a shake of her head. She closed her eyes and leaned in to him, seeking some sort of comfort as she embraced him tightly. Something about him made her feel incredibly safe and she needed to feel that right now, it was incredible how much calmer she'd begun to feel since his arrival. Though she was still incredibly shook up, whether it be from fear over what had happened or a result of the curse her body still trembled, aching a hell of a lot.
"Come on in..." she told him as she pulled back, moving aside so Hayden could step into the apartment. Closing the door behind him she smiled softly, tucking her hair behind her ear cursing the tremble in her hands as she ran one over her face again, wiping away the stray tears that had fallen. Not saying anything else to Hayden she walked further into her home, heading over to the sink where she turned on the tap and poured herself a glass of water.
As she did this she brushed her hair back away from her neck, using her fingers to quickly determine how big her head wound was. It was beneath the hairline at the back of her neck, which made it slightly trickier in cleaning it, even with a wand. Lowering her glass down she turned to Hayden, "Could you...help me with this? I can't...see..." she asked quietly, biting down on her lip as she reached for the muggle first aid box she kept as well as a potion that would aid with the healing.

A wave of anger began coursing through him, whoever had done this to Dominique was going to get their face bashed in once he got hold of them. Perhaps even with his bare hands depending on how angry he got once he laid eyes on them. Though now revenge wasn't the most important thing, he needed to make sure that she was safe and comfortable with being alone. She looked as if she had been attacked by something. And really, this was concerning him, she was such a strong woman, whoever had done this to her must have caught her by surprise- or they had somehow been able to overpower her.
Whatever this was, Hayden didn't like it, not one bit. Actually, the thing that he hated most was that he hadn't been there to stop it, or at least cause some damage to whomever had struck her. He noticed a certain gingerness in the way that she was walking, he was no healer, though he could spot injury to the sides or abdomen just by the way people walked. He knew mostly from experience, he was a tank of a man, though there were many people he had captured who didn't come quietly and had caused derious damage.
Not even saying anything to Dominique, Hayden slipped an arm around her- avoiding putting any pressure on her waist, and allowed her to lean up against him. He didn't like that she was hurt, it should be him instead, she had a "safe" job, it was him who was in the more dangerous profession, the roles should be reversed. It was killing him, seeing her in pain. He instinctively winced as he saw the wound at the base of her skull, it looked as if her attacker had attempted to render her unconscious.
"God, Domi, what happened to you?" said Hayden, attempting to keep his anger in check, though he was finding it a more difficult task than what he expected. He flicked open the kit, and then grabbed a cloth to clean the area. It was going to hurt like a bitch, but Hayden would be as gentle as humanly possible, even with his strong fingers. He began dabbing as gently as he could, knowing that each touch would sting, and hating that there really wasn't anything he could do about it.

"God, Domi, what happened to you?"
Dominique could hear the way he struggled to keep his anger in check, she could feel it to, see it in the way he carried himself. She didn't answer him though, not at first, instead she squeezed her eyes closed, biting her lip as he began to clean the wound. It stung, from what she'd felt the wound wasn't that deep it was simply in an awkward spot, even healers had trouble fixing themselves when they couldn't see the injury they needed to mend. There was no doubt it would have faded somewhat by tomorrow thanks to the ointment she had out.
"A couple of us went outside to help bring in a patient...I'd taken barely two steps towards him when I felt something hit me on the back of the head...everything after that was pretty blurry for a bit..." she told him breathing slowly, her nerves starting to feel a little less frayed as she relaxed some more. Hayden's presence was certainly having a soothing effect on her which was ridiculous when you looked at the size of him. "Before I could...even get up something hit me a few times in my stomach and back before...they grabbed the patient but one of them turned and cast the cruciatus curse..."
She sighed quietly and took a sip of the water in front of her, noticing the tremble in her hands had subsided considerably to what it was before. "First time I've been subjected to that...have to admit I'm not a fan..." she said laughing slightly at the end, in a naive attempt to brush it off as not a big thing. She wasn't sure what was affecting her more, the surprise attack or the fact that she'd never been made to feel so helpless before. There was no doubt in her mind she could have fought against them if she hadn't been knocked down...maybe she should just be happy they hadn't been killed, considering all the people who had lost their lives as of late thanks to those Death Eaters.
"I'm more worried about that poor man they took, he was barely alive when he got to the hospital...god only knows what they're doing to him now." she said, shaking her head as she turned to face Hayden. Resting a hand on his arm she smiled ever so slightly, grateful he was here and not looking forward to the time when he left. Though did he have to leave, she didn't want him to, at least not yet. Reaching out she turned on the kettle, needing something soothing to drink. "I thought becoming a Healer was the safest kind of profession considering most of my family are Aurors...and here's me, getting attacked right outside the hospital..."

Really, Hayden was furious, it had been a long while since his temper had gotten the better of him, though this really was too much. He cared very deeply for Dominique, nobody in the world was allowed to hurt her and not end up facing him. He would get his revenge on them. Of course, Hayden knew better than to tell Dominique of his intentions, she would just try and talk him out of it. But he knew with the less than desirable connections he had with the thugs in Knockturn Alley he would be able to find out who exactly had hurt her, and make them pay for it.
Though there was no use giving in to his rage just then, it would only make him storm out and act illogically. These things needed to be dealt with carefully, once he had the sorry souls in his possession was when he would allow the anger to be unleashed. He would show them no mercy. His rage threatened to boil over as she stated that she had been tortured. He had encountered the curse just the once, and it had been enough to entirely incapacitate him, he could hardly imagine what it had been like for her- she was so fragile, so delicate...
He inhaled and exhaled deeply to keep himself calm, and found himself incapable of even smiling at her half-hearted attempt at a joke. The Cruciatus Curse was no laughing matter, especially since it had been performed on her. He wanted to hit something, or break something, but he would have to keep it suppressed. "You should sit down," Hayden said after a long, tense moment of trying to keep himself calm. He had always had a temper, and this was threatening to push him over the edge. Somebody needed to pay for this, the sooner the better.
He placed his hands on her shoulders again, gently guiding her back to the living room. He could feel how shaky she was underneath him, from the sounds of it, it had been quite an ordeal. Hayden positioned himself on the couch so she would be able to lean into him, she looked so weak in that moment, almost helpless. Hayden wasn't quite sure what to do with it, Dominique had always been so strong before, he didn't know how to fix it this time.

Domi looked up at Hayden watching as he struggled to reign in his emotions and remain calm. He didn't even crack a smile at her sad attempt to try and lighten the mood, if she was honest it hadn't helped her at all. She was well aware of his temper, and was hoping he wasn't planning on doing something stupid, then again she wasn't planning on letting him leave anytime soon, so at least she didn't have to worry just yet.
"You should sit down."
Before she could reply, his hands were on her shoulders, gently guiding her towards her living room. She reached up a hand to cover his own, feeling how tense he was. It was strange how easy she found it to read him, considering they weren't even a couple...much to her disappointment, she'd made it obvious on many occasions that she liked him...Hayden however wasn't very forthcoming with his emotions so she still didn't know where they stood on that front.
Hayden sat on the couch and she followed, smiling softly when he positioned himself in a way that would allow her to lean against him. It was an open offer, and one she quickly took advantage of, wincing slightly when she pressed against the forming bruises on her abdomen. Resting her head on his shoulder she closed her eyes, content to just stay here for the duration of the day, there was something so safe and comforting about being in his presence, it inspired a kind of strength in her self, she no longer felt scared over what had happened.
Had the attack and the curse left an effect on her, sure it had but she knew she was okay now. It'd take a little time to move past it though, she was a Weasley, she knew she'd be back to her normal bouncy self in no time. "I need you to promise me you won't go do something stupid when you leave here..." she said after a few moments of silence passed between them. She placed her arm around his abdomen, hoping he'd relax somewhat, she didn't want him doing anything stupid because of her, "It's not worth it..."

Hayden wasn't sure what it was that he needed to do at the moment, he was so tense, to the point of practically grinding his teeth, though he needed to refrain. At the moment Dominique required that he not turn suddenly savage, she was hurting and needed her protector to be with her- rather than being out there tracking down whoever had hurt her. Though if Hayden had it his way he would have left the moment she finished describing what had happened. No doubt his connections down in Knockturn Alley would tell him exactly what he needed to know. Hayden was just thankful his reputation was already trashed, his sources were useful, and he had nothing to risk by associating with them.
Hayden was glad, however, when Dominique did not dispute his leading her out to the couch- not doing any of the insisting that she was fine and could carry on with whatever it was that she was doing. Hayden figured that she must be really shaken up by what had happened for her to simply go along with what he said without a word. He placed an arm around her cautiously as not to agitate any of her injuries, though still held her close.
Her being there did do something for his anger, he no longer felt the need to do something right that minute, though Hayden would still need to be sure that he got his revenge, for Dominique. With his hand that was not resting on the woman he felt so strongly for he gripped the back of his neck, massaging it slightly in attempts to relax, though he didn't think that he would be able to right that moment, not just then. He looked down at her in his arms as she spoke, frowning slightly, it was as if she had read his mind- though he figured his rage was easy enough to interpret.
Hayden sighed, releasing his neck and placing his hand beneath her chin, lightly lifting her head so he could look her in the eye. "You're worth it," said Hayden, and he meant it. He knew she would hate it, though there would be little she could do to stop it. He allowed a pause to lapse before speaking again. "I don't do stupid things, this is what I do for a living, I know what I'm doing," Hayden added.

Domi closed her eyes, enjoying this closeness and the calm and warm feeling it instilled inside of her. All the badness seemed to fade away when she had him here. She felt Hayden relax a little, though not completely, not that she could blame him. He wanted to get out there and find the men responsible for hurting her and it warmed her to know he cared so much. She on the other hand was full of worry and sadness for the man they'd kidnapped, there was no use in praying he was okay. Domi knew he wasn't going to be so didn't try to fool herself.
Hayden lifted her head lightly, forcing her to look up into his eyes as he spoke, telling her she was worth it and making her smile softly. She knew he was also telling her he was going to do this whether she liked it or not, she hadn't really expected anything less, it'd been foolish to think she could talk him out of it. A long pause fell between them before he spoke again and she sighed quietly, nodding her head in response. "I know you do...and I'm not disputing that, I just...I don't know, just if I can't talk you out of this then, just be careful."
Her voice was soft as she spoke, her eyes remaining locked onto Hayden for a long moment before she lowered her head again, resting it against his strong chest. The silence lapsed between them as she listened to the strong, steady thump of his heart against his chest, enjoying the sound of it, finding a calm in it almost. "I like having you here..." she admitted quietly, her right palm laying flat on his chest as she spoke, he fingers fiddling with his necklace.
Glancing at the clock she noticed it was touching on 6pm, with it being summer it was no closer to getting dark outside but she dreaded the moment it did. "Will you stay here tonight?" she asked softly, not daring to look at him as she asked, feeling a little silly for not wanting to be alone. For so long growing up she'd loved the idea of living alone, she honestly didn't know how her family did it, those who were Auror's that is. How they carried on, she was shook up at it had been a brief attack, many of her family had been involved in full blown attacks that had left them severely injured.

Hayden rested his hand atop Dominique's arm, gently moving his hand back and forth in what he hoped would be a soothing gesture. He found himself calming, however slowly, though he knew the anger would instead be replaced by determination, to find whoever was responsible, cause them double the pain that Dominique had felt and then some. Lord knew that the Aurors were going to take their dear sweet time. But they didn't have the informants that he did- what could take them months to find out he would be able to get in a couple of hours. And that made all the difference.
Hayden found a sense of satisfaction when Dominique did not insist that he let the matter drop. That wasn't something he was capable of doing. And while he wasn't exactly eager tomake enemies of any Death Eaters, Hayden knew that he wouldn't be able to properly rest until he had gotten his revenge. It would be real justice, the kind of work he had been so eager to do, he felt that it actually meant something- rather than stepping in as a hired hitman for a blood feud or calling out defaulted illegal loans, or even stepping in on the black market creature trade.
Snitches might get stitches, but they got a lot more than that in the underground animal trade if they ratted out anyone. "I always am," said Hayden. He knew what he was doing when it came to dealing with these sorts of people. He knew their ways. He inhaled deeply again, though still found himself incapable of being able to fully relax, though he wasn't sure if he ever had that in him. Even when he slept he was never fully at ease. Hayden had had too rough a life to trust that he would be safe anywhere if he wasn't on guard.
He only managed a flicker of a smile when she stated that she liked having him there. Truthfully, Hayden liked being with her, though was a bit unsure of how to go about forming a relationship. He had had a few, mostly physical things in the past, though nothing that had been of the caliber of commitment that he wanted with Dominique. He looked down at her when she asked him to stay for the night. He'd stay as long as she needed- he could see how nervous she still seemed. "I was planning on it," said Hayden, he didn't feel comfortable leaving Dominique alone while she was like this.

Domi found the gentle way in which Hayden was stroking her arm, somewhat comforting. Burying her face deeper into his chest she inhaled deeply, surrounding herself with his comforting scent. She smiled softly and nodded her head, knowing he'd be careful but it didn't stop her from worrying, she knew how dangerous the people he involved himself with where, and prayed he was able to take care of himself. She didn't know what she would do if he ended up hurt, her feelings for him were extremely deep already, it was insane really considering they weren't together.
"I was planning on it,"
Again Domi found herself smiling softly, unable to admit how happy she felt that he was going to stay. "Thank you for staying I mean...you make me feel safe..." she admitted, looking up at him as she spoke, not ashamed to admit how much safer she felt with him around. Of course it wasn't the only reason she wanted him here, but she had wanted him to know anyway, well she needed him to know.
Brushing her hair away from her face she lowered her head again, her fingers idly playing with the necklace hanging loosely around his neck. Her thoughts drifted back to the older man who'd been taken and she sighed sadly, "I don't even know who he was...the man they took...he wasn't an Auror...I just don't get why they'd take him. I can't bear to think about what they're doing to him." she said sadly, blinking back the tears in her eyes quickly, she refused to cry anymore, but then again she'd always been the more sensitive one of her family.
Her abdomen give a slight twinge and she winced again, sighing quietly she reluctantly sat herself up, though still kept some semblance of contact between her and Hayden, her hand on his leg whilst she wrapped her other arm around her waist. "Time for that pain replenishing potion I think..." she said, trying to remember if she had any potion left that would help heal the bruising as well before it got too bad...then again she was a witch all she needed was her wand and a few healing spells...shaking her head she wondered how she could've blanked on something like that.

Hayden had finally found some sense of internal rest- he hadn't been depending on getting Dominique's permission so to speak to track down the thugs, though now that he had gotten something along the lines of it he was able to relax somewhat. Usually Hayden reacted violently when he got that sort of enraged, though it seemed now that Dominique was an alternate antidote, one that didn't require him hitting or hexing someone. Quite frankly Hayden was surprised by this, though it was a welcome change- even if kicking someone's ass might have been a more direct, and thus more satisfying, but this worked too.
He continued to lightly rub her arm, now not even conscious of the fact that he was doing it. He nodded when she thanked him for staying, regardless of how strong his urges were to make someone hurt, he couldn't bring himself to leave just then. He felt as if he needed to be there with her, make sure that she was all right, and then once she was okay with being alone, then he would leave- but not until then. "Good," said Hayden, it was nice knowing that he had that effect on her, especially since she had just been attacked literally two steps outside her work.
He looked down at her against his chest as she spoke again, frowning slightly. Not unlike him, he wasn't at all concerned about the man that the Death Eaters took, he was more worried about her than anything else. She didn't at least appear to be too injured, though she seemed to be effected deeply by what had happened. Not that he blamed her. "Well there's bound to be some reason they took him," sighed Hayden, "but it's best you don't think on it, nothing can be done about it."
Hayden allowed Dominique to pull away from him and sit up, though he wasn't about to let her go and retrieve whatever it was. She needed to rest, he would get if for her. "You stay, I'll get it," said Hayden, gently pulling away from her and getting off the couch, "tell me where to look." She had taken care of him several months ago when he had been wounded, he could do this much for her.

"As if Death Eaters need a reason, they're monsters pure and simple..they're the reason our families lost so much over the years..." she sighed, shaking her head, the Weasley family was a large one but they'd lost so many people before and even after Domi had been born. Looking up at Hayden she nodded her head, knowing he was right, there was nothing she could do and worrying about it wasn't going to help anyone least of all that poor man they'd taken, chances where they weren't going to get him back.
"You stay, I'll get it,"
Domi smiled at Hayden when he stood up and away from the couch. She'd never had anyone who'd wanted to take care of her, she was a Healer, it was her job to take care of other people. "Thank you...it's erm, in the end cupboard, second shelf right at the front you can't miss it." she said, shifting to the edge of the sofa and carefully shrugging off her shirt, leaving her in her white cami vest. Without stretching too much she brushed her hair back, noting she'd need to jump in the shower at some point, the back of her hair slightly sticky with blood.
"Could you also bring me my wand...please...?" she asked, smiling at Hayden. Sliding off her sneakers she crossed her leg beneath her on the couch, before rolling her vest up enough to show the bruising that was surprisingly already showing. The bruise on her abdomen was in the clear shape of a footprint, or half of one at least. Domi grimaced and felt her back, not being able to see the developing bruising but she could feel how tender the skin was there so knew it was pretty bad.
"And my parents thing I'm in one of the safest professions around..." she sighed, it was now painfully aware no one was safe anywhere, not even a hospital. Though right now she was feeling the safest she ever had and that was all done to Hayden being here. "Things are getting worse...can feel it...none of us are safe anymore..." she sighed, holding out her hand for her hand and the potion.

Hayden only nodded, shoving away thoughts of his own family. It had been fifteen years since he had seen any of them, and he would rather keep it that way. It was his fault that Nikita had died, it should have been him instead- she should have been the one to get away with her life. Hayden again forced himself not to think about it, he was already dreading the day when Dominique would bring it up in conversation- knowing that it would come sooner or later. Though he could tell that her mind was not going to be far from the poor soul the Death Eaters had taken, it had happened right in front of her.
"Right, I'll be back," said Hayden, pacing into the kitchen. He always felt weird being in other people's houses, he never knew where anything was, though Dominique had thankfully been quite specific. He opened the cupboard that she had described, looking as the second shelf, and in about a second he had found the potion. It seemed that Dominique was one of the more organized types, in contrast to himself. His flat was always crowded and cluttered, he simply left things wherever he felt like it, and a summoning charm could find anything that he had forgotten where he left it.
"Yeah," Hayden called back from the kitchen, picking up Dominique's wand from the counter. It felt strange in his hand, and he noted how much more ornate it was than his own. His was just plain oak, with a dragon heartstring core. He figured that even the wand suited his personality. It did what it needed to do, without having anything unnecessary. Hayden walked back into the living room, handing Dominique her wand and the potion bottle before sitting beside her once more. The sight of her bruises stirred the anger up in him again, though it wasn't as strong as before.
Dominique had a calming effect on him. Not strong enough to make him entirely calm, though it dulled the need to hit someone. "We just need to be ready when things really get bad. This, I reckon it's just the calm before the storm," said Hayden. He didn't meant to be pessimistic, though he had a nagging feeling deep down that things were on the verge of getting much, much worse, and there was nothing that anyone was going to be able to do about it.

Domi thanked Hayden quietly as he handed her both her wand and the Potion before resuming his place beside her. Smiling softly she sat potion between her knees, fixing her wand between her fingers she looked down to her abdomen and pointed the top of her wand at the bruise. Muttering a healing spell she slowly began tracing the bruise around, feeling her skin warming slightly as the spell took effect. The bruise on her back was harder to see so she just pressed the tip of her wand against the area she assumed it was and muttered the spell, though like she had thought it only lessened the appearance of the bruises and healed them by a little bit.
"We just need to be ready when things really get bad. This, I reckon it's just the calm before the storm,"
Domi looked at him and sighed, knowing he was right, no matter how much she tried to deny it. There was a war coming, possibly bigger than the last one and till it did they were all helpless. Lowering her wand to the coffee table she picked up the potion and took a sip, grimacing as she did so, the taste was disgusting, almost instantly though she felt it work and the pain in her back, abdomen and head faded to almost nothing. "That's better..." she whispered, popping the lid back on and placing the bottle onto the table in front of them.
Turning slightly she looked at Hayden and smiled softly, releasing a small soft sigh. "I'm going to...grab a quick shower, clean up...you'll be here when I get out right?" she asked Hayden a little unsure. Brushing her hair back from her face she bit down on her lip, not wanting to seem too needy but she didn't want to be alone tonight, she wanted that safe feeling he gave her. "I mean if you are I could order us something in...something for dinner..."
