It didn't matter to him that he was wasting a ton of time walking up seven flights of stairs, then having to go down them plus another extra flight to get to the dungeons. He never got physically tired anymore. What matter was that Isaac was by Gabriella's side until she was safely upstairs. He didn't fancy the idea of her passing out in a corridor somewhere.

This was taking a painfully long amount of time. Gabriella had become quite accustomed to running, or at least jogging, up and down the stairs. This was a big change from that, and she felt like going even slower, but she didn't want to further worry Isaac. They had gone up five flights now and Gabriella could feel her legs straining. Stupid vampire, she thought icily.

If Gabriella didn't have blood soon, Isaac might have to tie her up and force some down her throat. He was sure that she was going to make herself ill again. Wait, didn't Isabelle keep blood in the hospital wing? Isaac kept this thought to himself, he didn't want to fight with Gabriella again.

They were almost there now, Gabriella climbed up the last few steps, her legs felt like they were about to give way again, but she was determined not to let it show. She started walking in the direction of the common room entrance. Gabriella finally made and she tapped the Fat Lady gently and whispered the password to her. The portrait swung open. "Nite," she whispered to Isaac.

"Goodnight, my love." Isaac said very quietly. He watched her climb into the portrait hole, having the wild urge to climb in after her before the fat lady in the pink silk dress swung closed, to tell her that he was going to put some blood into her if it was the last thing he did. But the moment passed, and Isaac found himself staring at a snoring portrait.

Gabriella climbed through the hole and made it into the common room before she collapsed on the couch, completely exhausted. Maybe she shouldn't have swum so far and so fast. Gabriella breathed steadily, glancing into the fire and letting the chair hold the weight of her sore arms and legs.

Isaac stood before the portrait a long while, staring at her, but not really seeing the snoring fat woman in the pink dress. He smacked himself on the forehead, unable to believe how stupid he was. Isaac began to pace back and forth, kneading his forehead with his knuckles.

Gabriella could smell that Isaac was still just outside the Gryffindor common room. "Why hasn't he gone to his dorm?" she whispered to herself in a voice that no one else could hear. Might as well go see, she thought, pushing her tired body out of the chair. She clambered back to the door, wondering why she was doing this. She pushed the portrait open to find Isaac still standing there. "What are you doing?" Gabriella asked, still holding the portrait.

For the first time in a long while, Isaac was unsure of what to do or say. He stopped rubbing his forehead with his knuckles, then stuck his hands in his pockets. He figured he would have to do something eventually. "Thinking of how stupid I am. I don't think I could just go down to my dormitory without saying something," said Isaac.

Gabriella frowned. What on earth was he talking about now? It was probably something to do with her, well of course. Gabriella took a silent breath in. "Um, well, say what's on your mind then," Gabriella replied, mentally bracing herself for whatever he was going to say.

Isaac wasn't exactly sure how to phrase what was on his mind. It was deep and complex. He loved Gabriella so much, he didn't like fighting with her. "I was stupid, I don't really like fighting with you. I kind of feel guilty about it, like I just kicked a puppy or something." said Isaac. "I'm sorry."

Right. Well, Gabriella was speechless for a few moments as her brain tried to configure an answer. She had been thinking that he was going to say something more about blood or something. "Well, apology accepted," Gabriella replied, the words finally forming in her mouth. "Just let me be me, okay? I can take care of myself...well usually."

[malfoy]

"I know," said Isaac, a bit sheepishly as his gaze wandered down to his shoes. "But you know how guys are, we have to be your protectors." He paused a moment, but then opened his mouth to speak again. "I suppose you want to go and rest a bit," Isaac said. "Good night."

[igloogirl]

"And you know how girls are, we want guys to take care of us, to a certain extent," Gabriella replied. Isaac had passed that extent a bit that evening, but at least he had the courage to apologize. Gabriella saw that he was ready to leave. "Oh, come here," she said, pulling him into a hug as a small statue flew to hold the portrait open for Gabriella.

Isaac held her in his arms, it made him just want to melt. He was gentle with her, although he knew that there was no possible way that she could break like other people could. It was right then and there that he decided that there was nobody else in the world for him. He wanted Gabriella. Isaac would buy the ring soon.
